I had recs from others on this board for Sugar House Day Spa in Old Town, and I took them to heart and scheduled my massage...and I was glad I did. They have a pillow specifically to fit pregnant stomach so you can lay face down, but unfortunately I was already too big to comfortably stay in it the whole time. The great thing was that the massage therapist was a) very good at giving a massage and b) totally understanding about my need to shift from face down, to side, to back, to other side...(she had a baby about a year ago herself, if I remember correctly). I was most comfortable on my sides...it was really relaxing, and she gave me some suggestions for exercises for my aching hips, which was nice.
Sugar House was fantastic. I had a prenatal massage at Red Door also, but they didn't have the special pillow. I would have paid just to lie on the pillow - it was so wonderful.
It's not in Alexandria, but if you're willing to make the trip to Herndon, Calvert Rejuvenations is absolutely worth the drive. They are my go to spa - I love them. They also have the pregnancy pillow, and the therapist I had last time, Antoinette, is pregnant herself and was very knowledgable and accomodating. Calvert herself is also fanstastic. It's a small, quiet spa, and they are totally non-pretentious, which is the best part - plus I think they are much nicer and a more intimate experience than Red Door or some of the other bigger corporate places. I was a spa hopper for years and now I don't go anywhere else. Wish I could afford to treat myself more often!
