Bathtime & Wrinkly fingers..

B has discovered that his fingers wrinkle when he takes a bath.  This scares him.  He still loves his bathtime, but doesn't want his fingers to get wet.  So, I can't rinse his hair, wash him, or do any of the normal bathtime necessities.

Has anyone else dealt with this before???  How do I convince my 2.5 year old that it'll be ok?  Bear in mind while he understands everything he doesn't say much of anything back to me, so reasoning with a 2.5 year old is even more difficult

  • Can you get your fingers good and wrinkly and let him see them?

Kohl's sells bath mitts.  Maybe he could wear those and help wash too?

  • This bothered my DS for a bit, I just started giving him quick showers and he thought the shower was cool.  His fingers didnt get so wrinkly this way. I also bought some of those bath crayons so he could write on the shower walls, this really got him excited for shower time.

    This.

DD just noticed this for the first time at last night's bath. She was really upset until I told her that "It just happens. When we stay in the water a long time, our skin gets wrinkly. Even mommy's. And I bet your toes are wrinkly too. They look funny, but they're okay". That was suitable for her. Well, at least for now. We'll see how tonight goes (1st bath since she noticed).

So maybe showing him that everybody's fingers wrinkle if they're in the water a long time will reassure him?
