Its a girl! Which is crazy because DH had me convinced its was going to be a boy. So were both surprised when the Dr. said girl, but so happy. Everything looks good, except when listening to the heartbeat the Dr. said it was irregular, so I would need to schedule a Fetal EchoCardiogram (something like that). Anyone else have the same thing? All 4 chambers of the heart were there and everything else looked great. The Dr. said she sees babies with it all time and usually its just benign, but it still has me curious...
I called the hospital and the earliest they can get me in is the 23rd. So obviously there is no 'rush' seeing as how its over 2 weeks away, but still needs to be done. The Dr. did push my EDD up to July 20 (it was pushed back to July 24, at one point), because the baby is further ahead in her growth. So maybe the heart just hasn't caught up?
Re: Its a girl! (with an irregular heartbeat...)
I see many people who have what is called "sinus arrhythmia" on their EKG. They never would have noticed otherwise, and it's not that uncommon and it's benign. Doesn't hurt a thing (I do a lot of EKGs because we do research studies on medication, so the subjects get regular EKGs)
If the doc isn't worried and feels waiting 2 weeks is fine, it's likely something that will correct itself. Or she will probably just have a "normal" arrhythmia.(It's hard not to worry....whenever it comes to the heart, patients worry or freak out! Understandable. But there are a lot of small arrhythmias and defects that would never cause trouble or get noticed if not for an EKG finding it)
I know very little about irregular heartbeats, but I just had my anatomy scan today and my OB took a second listen after the u/s tech made a note that LO (we find out gender tonight!) might have an irregular h/b.
When my OB was listening to it with the doppler, she said if there is an irregularity, it's nothing dramatic, and the fact that LO is measuring right on size-wise is a really good sign. It seemed like, based on all the other indications that LO was growing and progressing as he/she should, my OB didn't even feel it was necessary for us to see a specialist. So, in my totally unprofessional opinion, I'd say if your EDD was actually moved UP, your LO is probably doing great and your OB just wants to be extra cautious.
Congratulations on your baby girl!
I just got back from the Dr. today, and I was told the same thing. I was sent from the office to the hospital right away for mine though. I was told that our baby has near constant fetal arrhythmias, but that I should still not worry too much because on average 99% of babies just grow out of it. If they are waiting to give you the test, I am sure they are not that worried...also, I heard a lot of the doctors today say that usually by the time women come in and get tested, the problem has already corrected itself. Also, I was told NO caffine. Not even chocolate chip cookies!
Good Luck,
