Do you have a tv in your bed room??

If you do,.. are you keeping it in there when Lo is born (assuming that LO will sleep in your room for a few months) we just moved an I dont have a tv in my room right now but its so quite in there it creeps me out right now!! (just until i get used to a new place you  know) So i was thinking of putting a small TV in there and a DVD player instead of like cable. But do you think it would desturb a sleeping LO?

Re: Do you have a tv in your bed room??

  • We have a tv in the bedroom and it will be staying.  The baby will have to learn to sleep through everyday noise.
  • Loading the player...
  • It will help to keep you awake during late night nursing sessions (assuming you are breast feeding)

  • No, we've never had a tv in our bedroom. It was probably my only "rule" when we moved in together. :)

  • We don't have one.  I would say it is fine to have but that LO could get used to it.  It might be better to break the habit now before LO arrives then have to do it after they are born.

  • We do. I actually need it to fall asleep. It's on a timer, so it usually goes off about an hour after I crawl into bed. DS#1 wasn't bothered by it at all. When I put him down it was quiet (I wasn't hanging out with him at 7PM!), when I went to bed a few hours later I would put on the TV and he never so much as sighed.
  • We do and it's mounted to the wall so it's not going anywhere. We honestly don't watch much tv in there, though.  In my experience with friend's kids and my nieces, babies can sleep through a lot so I'm not worried about it.

  • We do, although baby won't be sleeping with us. However, the nursery shares the same room as the living room and there is a TV in there. We've decided that when trying to get the baby to sleep, TV will be off, figure it will help him understand sleep time. We did this with our dog and it seemed to work for him. As a puppy, whenever all lights were off and no one really talked, or talked with low voices, he'd fall asleep right away, if the TV was on, he'd still think there was time to play and have fun. It seems silly since dogs are obviously not babies, but figure either way, cutting off anything that could excite his senses will make it easier to get him to follow whatever schedule we may be trying to put him on.

It wasn't my only rule when we moved in together, but it is one that I will always stand firmly by; there will never be televisions in our child(ren)'s rooms either.

  • I have a small TV (26in I believe?) in my bedroom with a small DVD player and cable hooked up to it. I am definitely keeping it in there after LO is born. We're going to try to have her sleep in her own room from the very beginning but the nights she crashes in bed with me or that I'm nursing her in my room it will be soooo nice to have the tv to keep me awake and sane. Plus, I don't want to be tip-toeing around my house everytime she's sleeping so I want her to get used to sleeping through noise, especially because she will be going to a daycare at 2mo old.

  • We have a TV in our room but we barely ever watch it. I wouldn't worry about waking the baby. I actually prefer some noise around when they are sleeping. Whether it is a TV, people talking, a dog barking, or even the vacuum. It was nice to have them get used to be able to sleep through anything and not have to worry about tip toeing around so I wouldn't wake them up with a little noise.

  • No. We don't even have a TV in our living room.

We have an air purifier that makes enough noise so it isn't deadly quiet

This EXACTLY!  With DD, we NEVER pulled the "shhhh, baby's sleeping!"  We went on with our daily lives and I seriously believe that this is the main reason DD is such a fantastic sleeper!  She can sleep through absolutely ANYTHING!  We're HUGE Mizzou fans and she slept through the Mizzou vs. Kansas (biggest rival if you didn't know) game that was AT HOME!  Didn't wake up until about 2 minutes left in the 2nd half...even with all the screaming going on in the arena...she slept right through it!  GL!

Babies hear everything now, once they are born they know the noises you hear on a daily basis.  We are not changing anything we do now to be quiet for a baby.  We do have a TV and DH questioned it being on at night, I need the noise or my mind goes into a worry state all night.

She is coming into our world we aren't going into hers.

This.  I'm a fairly light sleeper so the TV noise, even though we put it on the lowest volume, keeps me from waking up and freaking out at every little creak and moan in the house.  It's a small TV though, so I don't see it bothering anyone.  And it's always on History... which can put anyone to sleep :)

  • We have a TV in our room and kept in on when DD was little specifically because she was on our room.  First of all, I couldn't see without it on and I was one of those moms who checked to make sure she was breathing every 5 seconds, lol, plus I was nursing so it was easier to get up and see what I was doing with the tv on.  Secondly, I made it a point not to tip toe around my house when DD was sleeping as a baby..I'd run the vacuum and go about my normal business because I didn't want her to wake up at every little sound when she got older.  That has changed a little with age for her, she sleeps great but she does wake up easily..her sister will have to get used to sleeping with a TON of noise now that we have a toddler around though!

  • We have a tv in our room, and it will be staying. BF works overnight, and any little noise in the house about makes me jump through my skin when I'm laying in bed. It's the only thing that relaxes me enough to get to sleep some nights. Patrick will get used to it, as well as the cat crying for me to lift the blankets up for her to crawl under in the middle of the night.

  • We have a tv in our room and it's not going anywhere! DS was fine with it and I honestly think it helps. Some mothers won't let a peep be made while baby is slepping then every little noise that is made the baby wakes up b/c he/she is such a light sleeper. I believe if theres noise the baby will get used to it and be a bit of a heavier sleeper. This is how we were raised how DS was raised and I will continue to do so. We fall asleep with tv on eevrynight and the timer turns it off for us.

  • I babysat for people who used to have the house completely quiet when the babies were sleeping.. they put an oven mit over the phone, a baby sleeping sign on the outside door.. it was ridiculous. I want peanut to be able to sleep through anything so I refuse to tip toe around my own house because she's sleeping.

To answer the question.. yes we do have a tv in our room but we don't use it very often. Usually only if I want to go to bed early but DF isn't tired.. he'll watch a movie and I'll go to sleep. We'll continue to do that even when she's here I think.

  • Yes we have a tv in our room, I can't fall asleep without some noise so I usually fall asleep with it on using the timer.
