UPDATE: To the Doc or not?

All of you ladies of wisdom were correct!  Ear Infection.   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Would you go today, or just wait?  We have Alex's 6 month appt on Friday.

He had a fever all weekend and stayed home from DC yesterday to adhere to their 24-hour fever free rule.  It's gone now, but since Friday, he's slept in increments of 30 - 90 minutes at night.  He wakes with a winey cry and won't CIO (although we don't let him go much more than 10 minutes).  At those night time wakings he will eat some (2-4 oz) and then conk out, unable to be woken to eat more.  What the heck?  No sign of teeth and he isn't constipated.

I guess I don't know what the doc would do or say, but I can't understand why his sleep is so poor.  (And my 4am sleep-deprived brain keeps saying 'what is wrong with this kid??').  Of course, he's now finishing his longest sleep from 5 am - 8 am.

Re: UPDATE: To the Doc or not?

  • Fever and crying at night are symptoms of an EI.  I'd probably bring him in for an ear check.  GL and hope he is feeling (and sleeping) better soon!

  • Ditto--the sleep issue alone sounds like an EI to me (from our experience anyway). It certainly wouldn't hurt to call. I hope he's feeling better soon.

btw--Love the new siggy pic! What a cutie!

  • I agree with the pp's. Sounds like an EI to me, too. Maybe you could get his appt moved up a day or so?
  • Yup, that sounds like an EI to me as well. I'd take him to the doc. GL!

  • Thanks, Ladies!  I booked an appt for later this afternoon.  As expected, they would not combine it with his well visit scheduled for Friday, so we'll be there twice this week.  As long as we get him some relief (and me some sleep), I'm happy.

PS - Thanks, Hughes!  We took lots of  pics while he was home yesterday.

  • Glad they're gonna take a look at him. It stinks they won't combine appointments. I LOVE that mine do. It makes it so much more convenient, especially since we've been there every 2 weeks since December with EI troubles.
  • Oh gosh, glad you figured out what it was!  I hope he feels better and you can get some rest tonight!
