Was dialated and effaced and now nothing??? Anyone heard of this?

At my 36 week appt I was 1cm dialated and 50% effaced.  Today (38 weeks) nada.  How can that be?  He said that my cervix was still so high that it was very hard to feel.  Tried to open it a little more and it hurt like hell.  Now I am cramping and spotting. 

I am so done with this.  He said we could talk induction next week (I have serious swelling and gained 8lbs this week even though I am barely able to eat).  The nurse had the nerve to stand there and tell me not to induce because it hurts really bad.  Seriously?  I hurt now.

Anyone else experience this or heard of anything like it?

    I'm sorry...how would your body just reverse that though...maybe he was wrong the first time?  Did you ask why the change?

    That sucks. I have no experience with it, but was it the same doctor that checked you? And, I'm getting induced. I know it might hurt but isn't it LABOR? I'm willing to take some pain to meet my little guy and be done with this.

    Yep it's mentioned in The Guide to Natural Childbirth. I wouldn't induce until after 40 weeks though : Yeah it sucks when you get to this stage but it's not forever.

    It was the same Dr.  I can't seem to get any straight answers from him.  He is so busy so it's a run in run out thing.  During the internal I couldn't even see straight and was trying to keep from crying.

    He thought I might lose my plug tonight if he loosened things up enough.

    I'm just so frustrated I want to cry.  I know little girl will come out when she's ready, but I have been in so much pain I just need a light at the end of the tunnel.

    My doctor said those internal exams are "subjective" and can vary from doctor to doctor.  I guess it just depends on their experience and what they feel.  At 39 weeks, I saw Dr. K and he said I was 2 cm and 80% and then at 40 weeks, I saw Dr. C and he said I was easily 3 cm and 70%.  When I questioned the effacement, he said I was definitely NOT 80% and these exams are "subjective".  IMO, it doesn't really matter anyway, until you are having contractions with it and starting to labor.

    I wouldn' t have considered induction except that I have +3 edema and a blood clotting disorder and at this point feel like it is not safe for my little girl to stay in there too much longer.  I also have a giant fibroid that may be making it difficult for her to descend all the way.

    She is not showing any distress and on the u/s we could see her little chest rising and falling like she is breathing and the Dr said that is a very good thing to see and that she is ready.

    I had the same thing last week with the same dr.  checking me. I asked how that I could go from 1 cm to nothing and she said that his head had gone back up and wasn't putting pressure on it anymore.

    Magical - Sorry that you are going through the same thing, but glad I'm not alone in this.  While I was sitting in the waiting room I swear little girl wiggled her way back up high.  Even DH commented on the change in the shape of my belly from yesterday to today.

    Hope our little ones get in a good position soon and bring us some sweet relief!

    dont stress, I was 2cm at 37 weeks, 2 1/2cm at 38. and at my last check up my cervix had actually withdrew for being low. and its my same doctor, and even i could tell the difference the last time around. i am due next monday. i go in wednes and if there is no change we will make plans to induce on the 21st which will be my 41 week mark.

    well for me i havent been dialeted at all. but today i was 60% effaced she said. and hse was going to try and dialte me but she didnt want to torture me she said, but it really hurt when she was pushing up there soo who knows. and next week we are going to talk about inducing also soo lets see what happeneds then!
