I'm a first time mommy and I've been wondering how many ultrasounds you normally get. I've had 2 so far--one at about 11 weeks and then my 20 week anatomy scan. Will I be getting another before the baby is born or probably not?
I have had two. One at 8 weeks, another at 20...my doctor says I might be having one more, but not to count on it. If I did have one, it would be at 36 weeks to get a more accurate guess at how big baby is.
my office typically just does the one anatomy scan at 20 weeks, unless you opt for more testing. I wanted the NT scan, so I also had one at 12 weeks and then when we went in for our first appointment, we asked about having one and she sent us up for one (I guess I was around 8w).
My BFF also delivered with the same doctor and she had one at 36 weeks to determine the size, so I may or may not get one then too, but I guess typically, they're over at 20 weeks.
I have had 8 so far, I have another scheduled for the 29th of this month and should have one more before she arrives. I have severe asthma and spent two days in L & D already so I think that they are just monitoring me a little more since I am borderline high risk. She has been a naughty little crumb snatcher though, with all of those U/S she has yet to give us a good picture of her face!
I had a few in the first trimester because of some issues with figuring out the due date, and then I had one for the NT scan and one for the 20 week anatomy scan, but I'm dying to have another one! When I had the NT scan and the anatomy scan, I had to go to the hospital because they have more high tech equipment than in my OB's office, and my OB told me that after the anatomy scan, I wouldn't have to go to the hospital anymore because we could do ultrasounds in her office from then on. I'm assuming that means that I'm going to have at least one more, but I'm getting impatient! My next appointment is in two weeks, and if she doesn't do one I think I'm going to have to ask (or maybe even beg) her to do one. My mom and my husband both want me to have one so bad too that they're fully willing to pay for it out of pocket if insurance doesn't cover it
I have had 2 so far, a dating one and the anatomy scan. However, I *should* start having one every other week after 32 weeks because of being high risk. At least that was my current doctor's plan, and I have no clue what my new doctor's process is.
It is very normal to only have 2 u/s through out your pregnancy unless there is a cause for concern.

I would have only had the one at 20 weeks but since I'm having twins I've now had 5. I go every two weeks for a new one and starting at the beginning of April I will have one every week.
I have had 4 so far. One to determine EDD, the NT 12 week scan, one at 18wks to determine gender and then another 2 weeks later because they could not get a clear picture of baby's heart (it is perfect just like her). I think my doc does another at like 36wk to see how big baby is but I am unsure about that.

It's totally normal to just have 2 - one for dating and one for anatomy. Even if not high risk, you may get another one to check position or size down the road. Seems like it depends on your OB as some of my Mommy friends have, some haven't.
I've had 4 though, and will have at least 2 more. I'm a hypertensive (increased risk for still birth due to cord dissolving) so the third tri ones are to ensure continued growth and good cord blood flow. My DS also had a birth defect so I had an extra US at 26 weeks to ensure that LO has none of the renal issues DS had.
For my entire pregnancy, I will have 4; to date the pregnancy, NT scan, anatomy scan and a growth and position. This isn't even standard at my practice because it depends on your insurance. Luckily, I have great insurance.
I agree pp stating that the number of ultrasounds you get is dependent on your doctor, your insurance and whether or not your pregnancy is considered high-risk.
I'm a first time mommy as well. I have had 4 so far, I have borderline high blood pressure so I'm not sure if that's why or not. Anyways I'm also not sure if I'll be having another one. Most times doctors schedule another one around 32-36 weeks to check position/progress of the baby.
Re: # of ultrasounds?
It depends on your OB. Mine only does one routine ultrasound at the 20 week anatomy appointment.
I've had a total of three ultrasounds at my OB's office: one to determine EDD, one for the NT scan, and the anatomy scan.

I honestly can't remember how many I've had. I think its six or seven at this point.
You probably won't get another one unless the doctor is concerned about the baby's size. I had one last week for that.

I've had quite a few (5-6) due to dating issues, bleeding, Baby Boy not being in a good position to see spine & heart at 20wk U/S, etc, etc.
Unless something arises, I don't foresee myself having another U/S before I go into labor.

I think I will have five throughout the course of this pregnancy.
