JBF event in Ft. Worth

After hearing a few positive comments on the Just Between Events, I attended the one in Fort Worth yesterday. I have to say I was pretty disappointed. It was like a big garage sale and the prices didn't seem that great for the condition of the items.

Re: JBF event in Ft. Worth

  • I went yesterday and thought it was a huge improvement from the first one I went to in San Angelo (but that's not saying much Stick out tongue. I didn't go with a particular item in mind but found several new and "brand name" items. I ended up with 6 items for 17 bucks! I might even go back Monday to see what I can pick through.

  • I don't care for the gear, bc people over price it and it's not always in good condition.  But the clothes are usually a great price, although I like divine consign better.  It's a huge consignment sale, so it is like a garage sale- used items.
  • I am not anti-used at all, I just thought the stuff seemed over priced for it's condition. I am a big fan of Kid to Kid and have found several maternity items and some baby clothes as well. Everything just seemed dingy and unorganized...like the maternity stuff had pants, tops, dresses and shorts all mixed together. It was frustrating. Then I pulled out a green tank top from Old Navy and it was marked $5 and I really thought that was overpriced, $5 for a used Old Navy tank? I guess I didn't have the patience to filter through everything. I was pretty nauseous yesterday and not in the mood for it.

  • I got a lot of great stuff! It honestly depends on each seller. Some sellers price their stuff way too high, and when they have to come pick it up at the end, hopefully they learn for the next sale. When I consign, I price to sell because I don't want to pick up my stuff later. PP is right, Divine Consign does a better job of checking for stains and pulling items that are worn/torn/dirty/outdated - I know because I made my shoulders ache after digging through all the newborn-24 month boys clothes as a volunteer for DC in Grapevine.

I hear a lot of people being disappointed with consignment sales, but it really depends on when you go. You have to get in first to get the best stuff and all the ugly, dirty, overpriced stuff is left at the end. I started volunteering at the sales so that I can get in before they open to the public.

  • I was also disappointed....I ended up buying new stuff from the vendors. I'm going to give the Dallas sale a try....if that's just as bad I'll just stick with Kid to Kid.

  • I went to JBF FW and had an excellent time.  I came home with some fabulous bargains. (I am not a thrift store or Craigslist shopper, I don't even by cars used) BUT I did go on the first day at 11am and paid $10 to get in.  I took my mother and we were both commenting about how picked over everything must be by the weekend as things were just flying off the racks when we were there.  I scored a brand now bath tub that is on sale at Wal Mart for $18, I got it at JBF for $8,  a brand my baby bjorn $25, a brand new snugride 32 base $15 and many clothes for children's place, Wal Mart, Target etc with tags for <$1 per item.

So I guess my point is that it is probably not worth it to go to the sale any day after the first day.
