Cincinnati Babies

Indy Children's Museum

Has anyone been there recently?  Is there enough there that is age appropriate for a 3 year old to make the trip worth it?

Because of #2 arriving soon and maternity leave, we aren't planning a big vacation to a beach or anywhere, but we'd like to plan something fun for Noah and this was my first idea.  We're thinking about going in September, or maybe October for his birthday.  We'd probably go to the zoo as well.

  • Yes, there is a ton for a 3 year old to do.  We love the Children's Museum and Indy in general (used to live there).  Definitely worth the trip!

  • addslove was just there too
  • we liked it but it is kinda preicey to get in. on the other hand cosi has reciprocity with cincinnati museum center, has a great kids area and plenty for adults.
  • we were today as it just so happens. there is a ton for a three yr old to do. they have a give Dora and Diego play area now but that goes until August. there's trains, dinosaurs, science stuff galore. easily you could spend three hours there imo. it was $17 ish for adults and $11 for three and above. I think it is much more worth it than cosi. we did the museum zoo trip when Alex was 18 mos and he still had a blast. the zoo has a great dolphin show too. we stayed at a hotel (can't remember name but page me of you want it and I'll try to find it) by the football field and circle center mall which was fun. the room was nice and like a suite that had a door between living and sleeping so we let Alex sleep in there and there was even a kitchen in it. I've heard there is a hotel in the old train station too that you can sleep in the cars too.

  • We were there this weekend too...did you happen to see my pics on FB?  They were from the museum.  DD is two and loves it.  There really is a lot to do for a wide variety of ages.  Make sure you go to the Playscape area on level three.  It's kind of hidden back in a corner but that seems to be where DD has the most fun (there is a water area, sand box type thing, climbing area, etc.)  I agree that entrance to the museum is a bit pricey but maybe you could find discount coupons between now and then.  Also, it is really busy on the weekends so if you can plan your trip where you would visit the museum on a weekday, it might be a little more enjoyable.

The hotel allobosc was referring to is the Crown Plaza.  Not all the rooms are in  train cars and they may be a bit small when traveling with kids.  But it is definitely cool!

I love Indy.  Luckily I have family there so we visit often.  Let me know if you have any other questions or need other suggestions.

  • DH and I stayed at the Crown plaza for an anniversary trip a little over a year ago. It was pretty cool, but was slightly noisy....not what I was looking for as a first night away from DD kind of hotel though! LOL

That might depend on the room though...we were there for the game.
