Soooo, I'm pretty sure DH and I have decided after much, much, much thought that he's going to get a vasectomy. Now the research begins since we personally are pretty much clueless on the whole process.
Wondering, have any of your DH had this procedure? Is there anything that you would like to share about the process? Any regrets? Open forum - let me know anything and everything...
TIA!
Re: Let's talk Vasectomy...
DH getting it done on Wednesday! Can't wait. We have Kaiser insurance and they had him attend a quick class, explaining everything. He has to provide a sample at 2 months post-procedure and again at 6 months-post procedure. Using condoms until then.
Very easy, painless, they can give him something (valium?) if he's nervous. They don't even use sutures - They just poke a hole, pull the 'spaghetti' out, clip it, catherize (spelling?) it, shove it back in, put a bandaid over it. Fast recovery - Can drive themselves home and if done on a Friday, back to work on Monday.
Yep. A friend of mine wanted a reversal and it didn't work for him so be sure.
Speaking of this I have a friend who had 2 kids with her then husband. They both thought they were done at 2. She talked him into getting a vasectomy the whole time knowing she wanted a divorce and planned on leaving him. A month after his vasectomy she left him. He was very mad at her since he is only 26 she told him "well I don't want my kids to have half siblings anyways!"
I actually also know a woman who did this at a very young age. She went on to have two more kids with another man. She told me she knew she was done having kids with guy #1 but she also knew that SHE wasn't done having kids. Sick.
LOL, snip-a-roonie. Once we're done having kids, DH will be going in for this too.
WTH is the matter with people?

My DH has his done last June. It was a very simple outpatient procedure. & covered by our insurance. We had to pay a copay for the initial visit, and then another copay for the actual procedure.
He was sore for a few days. But the dr told him to go home & take it easy, and the next day he insisted on going to Target with me because he felt "fine"....that kept him out of work for an extra day. So, just make sure your H sits his ass home with a bag of frozen peas
He had to provide a sample 30 days & 90 days after the vasectomy. Until both came back clear we used condoms.
All told, it was the right decision for us
This, except DH has his done when B was six months old (we were really sure about having an only). No regrets. We always said even if we decided on a second child we'd adopt, vasectomy or not.
The peas were a lifesaver, but make sure to have multiple bags so you can switch them out as they thaw. We bough cheap $1 bags of veggies at Target (peas and corn) and switched them out every couple hours. One on the crotch, one in the freezer getting cold. Oh, if your DH wears boxers, get some briefs for after the surgery. DH HATES briefs, but said he was so glad the doctor told him ahead of time to wear tight underwear because freeballing would have been unbearable. We bought him Batman briefs, to make it more amusing (and it was).
I drove him to and from the appt. Physically he could have done it himself, but because he took the Valium (he wasn't nervous, but they recommended it anyway) he had no business driving. He was on the pain meds they gave him for a couple days, then back to normal. Had surgery Friday morning and was back to work Monday.

My husband had it done a little over a year ago.
He went to the dr's office on Friday afternoon. He took Ibuprophren every 4-5 hrs to keep from being in any pain. He went to Target with me that night, hung some sheetrock in our basement on Saturday and to a sledding party on Sunday. Then, was back to work on Monday. Obviously didn't keep him down! He was a little sore at night, but staying on top of the ibuprophren seemed to do the trick.
Definitely way easier than any permanent option for me!
