our LO broke out of everything in seconds....he was too little for the miracle blanket for the first couple of weeks, so the only place he would sleep was on my chest....once he was big enough for the miracle blanket, that thing was a lifesaver....he started getting too pissed off though, trying to break out of it, so now we are using the woombie which let's him move his arms a little but still keeps him snug enough that he can't startle himself. he still grunts and tries to get out of it, but it's better than anything else we've tried.
if you want to go for a traditional swaddling blanket, the aden and anais muslin wraps are awesome. they are HUGE and sort of stretchy so they work really well.

I like the Swaddle Me as well here. I do not have a problem with him getting out. Either the PP's have incredible hulks or they are just not tight enough. Not sure. I really have to pull on them to get the Velcro undone.
Another recommendation for the Woombie. DD1 fought her swaddle so hard she'd throw up when she was an infant. This was the only way we could keep her swaddled that she didn't get sick over.

definitely incredible hulk...DS is super, super strong. FWIW, i know lots of moms who have had great success with the Swaddle Me...we just happened to have a problem with it cuz DS is so strong and resists being swaddled so much. some babies really don't mind but DS fights it.

When my dd was born, she loved to be swaddled. We either swaddled her in a receiving blanket or we used the Summer brand SwaddleMe blanket. If you swaddle your baby in a receiving blanket, don't be afraid to swaddle him/her rather tightly. If you have questions about how to swaddle in a blanket, there are many places to look online, or you can ask your pediatrician at your next visit (they are all rather impressively good at swaddling babies).
Our daughter started being able to Houdini herself out of either the receiving blanket or the swaddleme around the same age. However, this also coincided with her deciding that she did not want to be swaddled any longer, because she liked being able to play with and suck on her fingers. We decided we needed to find another way to keep her warm and bundled up at bed-time, since she became fussy in the swaddles, so now we put her in either a fleece sleep sack (one with arms) or a fleece sleep 'n' play when we put her to sleep. With the exception of only one of the sleep bags we have, the sleep 'n' play pajamas are made from a warmer fabric, so when we put her in her crib at night, we stop and consider how warm it feels and dress her accordingly.
