Curious to those Mommies out there who had a c-section - and are currently nursing - when did you feel your milk was fully in? I BF and have to supplement since he's downing 200 ml formula (on top of what he gets from me).
Anyone have/had a similar experience? I read C/S moms can take up to 2 weeks to get up to speed with milk production but right now, I just feel overwhelmed.
TIA.
Re: BF'ing post-C-Section ?
This was my exact experience.
Mine took 10 days and sadly we are still supplementing due to low supply.
This is me exactly...Boo
I had a csection new years eve and had to supplement too for a few weeks with formula even though I had planned to breastfeed exclusively. It is so much harder after a csection to get the milk to come in. Little man is 9wks old now though, and he is totally breastfed and thriving. My mom was the one who helped me to achieve this. She visited for 5days when he was a few wks old and was like the breastfeeding gestapo. Every time he even moved his little lips she shoved him at me to feed him. It was seriously every hour or sooner. I wanted to throw her out she was so irritating! All I wanted to do was give him a bottle and sleep, but she was part of la leche league back in the day. I definitely didn't want to do demand feeding and wanted to put him on a 3hr schedule, but didn't have the milk supply to do it. I really believe that that 5day period saved me from giving up and going on formula. Even though it was hard, I highly recommend taking a "nursing vacation" if you can where all you do is nurse, nurse and nurse. Rest, and nurse. Eat, and nurse. Even if you feel dried out, nurse. Now I am so thankful to her. Supplementing wasn't doing my milk supply any favors! I am however glad he knows how to take a bottle and isn't fussy about different nipples, or the taste of formula that is the good that supplementing him early did. If you have a pump, also pump for 5 or so minutes on each side after each feeding to stimulate production. I am now trying to get a big enough milk supply to freeze and this is what I am doing. I am taking fenugreek seed and blessed thistle off of Amazon.com, these really helped as well. He is now on a 3hr schedule and sleeps for a 5-6hr stretch at night. If you are worried about baby not gaining weight invest in a baby scale for peace of mind. I got mine off of craigslist. Hope this helps!
Mine came in 2 days post c-section but I labored for a full day before finally having to have a c-section.
One thing to keep in mind, the more formula he takes, the longer it's going to take for your milk to come in. Your body needs baby to suck so that it knows to make more milk.
The breastfeeding board is a good resource, also.
