Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

When do they outgrow high chairs?

DD is 17 months and we're expecting #2 in July.  We bought the Graco Blossom highchair (it's a 4-in-1 high chair), so we have a booster seat that came with it.

By the time baby #2 is using the high chair, will DD be ready for the booster seat (she'll be around 26 months)?

Re: When do they outgrow high chairs?

  • I definitely think she would be ready for the booster by then! Assuming its a booster that straps to the chair, if it doesn't I would be worried of a wiggly toddler falling off the chair.

  • Yeah. I think that's a good age to use a booster.

  • DD's daycare already uses tiny table / chairs.  So now DD hates the highchair.  We're considering one of those booster seats that strap to the chair now.  DD already uses them between DH & I at restaurants.
  • We still use a high chair.  Every time i put her in a booster she is always fidgety and barely eats.  Someday I'll put her in a booster.

  • we just switched from a highchair to a booster at 19 months. All of a sudden, he wanted nothing to do with his highchair anymore and screamed when we put him in it. He wanted to sit at the table with us. He LOVES his booster....we got the Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe one, btw, if anyone is looking for a rec.

DS is still in his highchair but my sister had her two kids in these between 18 -24 months.  I actually have one for DS that we use when we go places where there is no highchair.  We still use the tray on it though.

  • DS wanted nothing to do with his highchair, starting about a month ago.  He wanted to be at the table with the adults.  (Yes, we always pulled the highchair to the table, but I guess he knew it was not the same.)  So, he has been in a musty booster chair since then and he loves it.
  • My LO at 16 mo won't sit in the chair anymore. She won't eat unless she is sitting in the captain's chair at the table (with me next to her).

Then again, yesterday a friend tried to put her baby in LO's high chair and LO insisted on getting in for the first time in weeks. Nothing like a little competition.
