I don't mean someone to come into our home, but rather a licensed at their home DCP. We have been going to a center for 6 months. It is highly recommended among many people within the city, but we are getting more and more dissatisfied with a variety of things happening. DH and I are considering transferring her. I looked in our yellow pages and found 8 options, so far only based on location.
Where else should I be looking to find places? I am hesitant on craigslist because it seems so shady. We want a reasonably priced place because I don't make a lot. If we have another child and stay at our current place, I won't be making enough to offset the price, so we'd have to switch to another place at that time, or I'd stay at home (which I don't particularly want to do). Long winded way of saying, trying to find a less expensive place that I could ultimately send 2 kids to.
Re: How did you find your in-home DCP?
Our state's department of children & families has a place where you can search all licensed providers, including in-home DCPs. They also have all of their inspection reports published online too.
I would start there, and then also word-of-mouth, if you know anyone else that uses in-home providers.
We used daycareresource.com. We just made a list of the facilities near our house and started setting up interviews.
I would highly recommend calling your local child care resource and referral agency. They will have lots of resources to help you in your search. CCR&Rs are almost exclusively nonprofit organizations that provide search services, usually for free.
You can find the one closest to you by searching on Child Care Aware: https://www.childcareaware.org/
