Baby Names

spanish boy names...

We're Colombian...

I love Rafael, but it's not the Mr.'s favorite, he loves Sebastian, but it's not MY favorite.  Any suggestions on a spanish boy name?

I'm not a fan of super popular names like: Juan, Pablo, Carlos... you get the idea.

  • Lurker here, but super curious about the responses you get because H's family is part Colombian. I looked at the Bump's section for Spanish boy names and there don't seem to be many listed. I d personally like Eduardo and Felipe. Also, Zavier (not sure if the Spanish pronunciation, though, but I have always liked Xavier).
  • Our son's name is Xavier or there's also Javier.
  • I love Javier, Joaquin, Gustavo and Alejandro.
  • I love the name Mateo.

  • My friend's DH is Javier and she calls him Javi (HA-vee).  I also like Jorge, Tomas, and Alejandro.

I grew up mostly in Texas, so tend to pronounce names the Spanish way.  I now live in an area where the predominant Spanish speakers are from Puerto Rico and they tend to prefer the names the English way (when everyone is speaking English), even if they use the Spanish pronunciation at home or when speaking Spanish.  When I meet the kids, I tend to ask the parents (or the kids) which they prefer and they are surprised that I even know the common Spanish pronunciation (I look uber-white).  HA-vee-air or HA-vee-a sounds lovely, but JAY-vee-err is just wrong.

  • We are Cuban and thoug my DH is partial to very old school names like: Ignacio, Bonifacio and Augustin. I like: Mateo, Gabriel, Elio, Javier and even Benicio.

  • my Grandfather was Puligeno (pronounced Pool E Heno). It was funny listening to the people in Louisiana try to read his name.  Most often he ended up being called (Pull lig eno)
