Trouble TTC

First Charted Cycle = Let Down :(

I went off BC in August and didn't get AF until November. I also had one in December. January came and I had one day of spotting, and February has come and gone where I thought I had a somewhat "normal" cycle (It lasted about 3 days, and was very brownish-red, but I did need a tampon)

DH and I have been having unprotected sex since I went off the pill. This month, after considering my February period the start of a cycle, I did my first round of OPKs and didn't get one positive. I have one test left. I got my period on February 19th (if that's what it was) and have been testing every other day since 7 days after my period. I have no clue what my cycle is, or what's going on but I'm really disappointed and feel like this is just foreshadowing all of the trouble we are probably going to have TTC... :(

Re: First Charted Cycle = Let Down :(

  • After getting off birth control, it takes awhile for your cycles to get back to normal.  After getting off birth control, I was getting AF once every 2 months and at this point everything is fine with me.  Don't worry too much yet, it is still early.  OPKs can sometimes not be very reliable.  I have heard from people that they only get a positive around a certain time of day.  If I were you, I would start taking your BMT to make sure that you are ovulating but just continue having sex after day 14 until AF comes again.  The BMT will give you an idea of when you ovulate but remember that when your temp spikes, you have already ovulated.  I hope this has helped a little!

  • If you only tested every other day with the OPKs, there is a very strong chance that you missed your surge.  Are you charting your temp to confirm that you o'd in case you missed it with the OPKs?

I think you might be jumping ahead of yourself to assume that you're going to have troubles when your first "charted" cycle didn't go as well as you wanted it to.  It can take a normal couple a year to conceive.  You've only been off BCP for 6 months.  It's also going to take your body some time to regulate.

ALL this! After getting off BC my first 3 cycles were pretty normal and then I had an 81 cycle and no O. First off, don't get stressed out and start freaking out b/c your first cycle charting is looking crazy.

You *may* have some problems, but don't jump to that conclusion until you give your body time to regulate and you and YH TTC for a year.

edit: I do see where you have in your siggy that you have PCOS. If that is the case, talk to your ob/gyn and just let him know what's going on. However, you should try to chart for another couple months just to see what's going on and if you do ovulate or not.

Ditto this. OPK's are not designed to be used every other day. You can get a surge one day and then not the next. You may have just missed it.
