stupid pedi or good suggestion?

So, my LO will be 10 wks on Tuesday and sleeps pretty well at night.  I can put her down in the evening between 7:30 and 8 and she sleeps a long stretch til 3:30 or 4 when she generally wants to eat and then will go back down til around 6:30 or 7.  My pedi asked how she was sleeping at her last appt and I told him this and he told me I should wake her a little later so she'll see when she wakes up, it should be light out, not dark.  I don't think I'm taking this advice.  WWYD?  TIA! :)

  • are you waking her up, or is she waking up herself?

  • I don't think I understand your question.  Should you wake her later in the morning so that she sees it's light out in the morning?  Why do you wake her at all?  I'm of the mindset that you never wake a sleeping baby - just let her do her thing.  But maybe I'm missing your question?

  • my pedi's idea was to wake her around 10pm  or so, so she is able to see that when she wakes its supposed to be light out since she is sleeping 8 hours and then to gradually move up her bedtime.

  • If you're comfortable with your routine now, why would you change it?
  • agreed!  i just wanted some verification that i was right on this one. :)

  • I would not wake up my LO.  He "generally" goes to bed at the same time, but once in awhile he has a wakeful period at night.  I let him make his own sleep schedule.

I would hate to wake him and find that he won't go back to sleep right away.

  • That seems odd.  When I go back to work this week, we are all getting up at 5:00am, when it's dark out.  Sometimes you get up when it's dark out, like most of the time if you work or when they start school.  I'd leave her schedule alone if it's working for you.
