Parenting after 35

Ugliest post ever

I know that most of you know I'm not a mean person. So please just realize that I'm sick, I'm not getting answers and I'm frustrated.
1. Dear phlebotomist, when I tell you that you really need to uses butterfly if you're only trying to get a few cc's, please know that I'm saying this because I have experience with my veins. Please don't take it as a challenge to see if you can be the one single person who can stick me and draw blood for the first time. Now that you and your other brethren don't listen to me, I have silver dollar size bruises all over my hands ad arms.
2. nurse, when you and the phlebotomist saw me throw up everywhere, did it cross your mind to get me some water or a wet wash cloth?
3. nurse, when I tell you I want to take a shower after I threw up and you see I'm visibly, profusely sweating and have still not been given anything to clean myself off, it would be great if you could just listen to my needs rather than saying "are you sure you don't want to wait until after breakfast" which was two hours away. I do realize that your shift is over in an hour and you have to walk all the way down the hall to retrieve some Howard Johnson reject towels but I sure would appreciate it if you could muster a little compassion and just so it. Oh and when you tell me to remember to place one towel on the floor so it doesn't get wet, that's brilliant yet when you only give me one towel, it's just not going to happen.
3.nurse, when they show up just now to tell me I need to go for another ct scan, how about being my advocate and questioning who ordered it and why. After three ct scans, an X-ray and a MRI, someones going to have to give me a damn good reason why I need to be wheeled down again.

Re: Ugliest post ever

  • How frustrated and scared you must be. I'm sorry you are going through this, and I hope you get your answers soon. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out well for you.

  • Oh Jen, I am so sorry! You really need to talk to the Nurse Manager or just call the Ombudsman.  After years of working in hospitals, I can say that is unacceptable and the behaviors that get folks written up where I work.  Good luck and keep telling them what you need and want!
  • I hope the shift change will bring you awesome nurses. I remember my L&D nurses were great... and then a shift change after my c-section brought in some not so friendly ones. It makes a huge difference in your hospital stay. Keep asking questions and being your own advocate. Is your DH there now? Is Jace with your mom still? I want to come and sit by your bedside :( I hope you speak to a doctor soon and get some answers about what is making you sick. Hugs.

  • Thanks girls. I sent dh home last night because I kind of find him annoying. He's really hyper and it stresses me out when he bounces off the walls. I sent him a list: a giant tootsie roll, chocolate pecan pie and corn bread from cracker barrel, my pillow, clean underwear and tweezers. Hopefully he will be here soon.
  • Oh geez, I am so sorry that you are dealing with such frustration, especially when you are feeling so horrible.  I hope you get some answers soon (and that DH realizes you need his support right now)  HUGS

  • Oh no!  I hope the docs are able to give you some answers soon.  Talk to the nurse manager about those nurses.  That's just unacceptable.  The shift change should bring better nurses. And hopefully DH will be there with your requests.  Left HugLeft Hug

  • I wish I were there to smack that nurse upside the head!  How awful.  I can sympathize with the blood draw...I have "invisible" veins and usually get stabbed repeatedly in one arm before they attempt the same nonsense in the other arm.  I really hope you get some answers soon and can go home!  Hang in there!

Hopefully this will hold you over until DH gets back...

  • Yuck, I am sorry, Jen.  This isn't a mean post at all, it's just a frustrated one.  :(

If you can still catch him, maybe your DH should bring you some wipes and a couple of old towels, in case you need to clean up again...

I sure hope you don't, and that they let you out soon!

  • I am so sorry you are going through such a rough time!  T & P are with you.
  • So sorry you have to go through this...

You can actually send this letter to the hospital administration. Also, you need to ask the attending physician questions when they do their rounds every day. When you are unexpectedly sent for tests and you don't know why, demand to speak with the physician on call. They will have to call you back and explain - it's their job.

  • sorry you are feeling so bad.

if the charge nurse doesn't help.  pick up the phone in your room dial "0" for the hospital operator and ask to speak to the hospital nursing supervisor. tell them you want to lodge (sp?) a complaint about the care you are receiving.  give specific examples and names if you have them.

this is not a time to be nice.  you are sick.  the nurses and other care providers need to get on the ball.  if i heard about one of my nurses or lab techs doing this you better believe i would give them a piece of my mind.

those are not silly complaints. those are valid reasons to lodge a complaint.  if you don't do it then they will do this to other people as well.  they are getting paid to take care of you and you better believe they should be doing that.  you are also paying them for this service regardless of if you have insurance or not. you are paying something.

sorry i ranted there but it irks me to hear when nurses and care providers arent doing the job they get paid to do.  i don't like when other nurses give our proffession a bad name.

  • That sucks and I'm sorry you're still in the hospital. Some nurses are actually wonderful but it looks like you got stuck with either bad or tired ones, so sorry. I hope things get better for you soon and you get some answers. At least they should communicate with you so you're not thinking the worst. The mind plays tricks on you when you're sick, hang in there, hopefully you'll be out of there soon... Left HugLeft HugLeft Hug
