hey guys! I was just wondering if any of you experienced residual cysts after taking follistim? I went for my check up after a BFN on my second IUI and they found 11 cysts and i am now unable to take any medicine this cycle. I was hoping someone could relate or tell me how many is normal. thanks guys
Re: residual cysts and follistim
Everybody is different with respect to cysts. I have never used follistim except for IVF. After both failed IVF cycles, I have ended up with a big cyst. For me the cyst does not go away on its own. After my first IVF, the cyst grew while on BCPs (or their equivalent in estrace and provera). So, it was aspirated. After the second IVF, the cyst grew for a cycle and then my RE put me on double doses of aygestin. I have been on it for weeks and the cyst is finally shrinking. I go back next week to see if it is small enough that I can stop taking the aygestin (it was still too large yesterday).
I'm sorry you are dealing with cysts. I know what a pain they can be and how frustrating it is to have to sit out because of them.
Oh, by the way, I only ever get one cyst, but I am DOR and don't get many follicles. And, with IVF, they are supposed to be less likely to occur because each follicle is drained at ER. So, I am not a good person with which you should compare with respect to number of cysts.

I have done 3 IUI cycles with Follistim and this last one was the first time that I have had any cysts. But this last cycle we went ahead with 6 follies, so we weren't too surprised that I had the cysts.
Also, this break cycle (with the cysts) is the longest one I have had in a year (currently at 38 days...). Not sure if it is my PCOS or the cysts that cause it, but I had to suck it up and do the progesterone to induce AF. Still waiting for that to happen...
Dx PCOS 2003/high fasting insulin/clotting issues DH Dx with low sperm count, motility and morphology. Varicocele repair (11/1/2010)
2/2011 - Confirmed no improvement - On to Donor Sperm

IUI#5 and 6- with DS, BFN
Final IUI - Lucky #7! IUI with DS - 20.Jun.2011 - 21.5 mil motile! Not so lucky - BFFN and the end of our IF journey....
Waiting for our family to be complete through Adoption - May 2012 - Hoping our baby finds us soon!
Both IUIs I ended up with 1 large dominant cyst. I was put on BCPs for 2 weeks and that got rid of it. I don't know what it is with Follistim and my ovaries, but they don't get along.
I hope yours go away quickly!
