Hey ladies-
I'm out of town for my baby shower but just checked my email and saw this from my labor buddy Kristen (sent yesterday):
I had plans to check in with you yesterday but my day didn't go exactly as expected...here is the short version of the story
Tuesday
night I woke up having cramps that I thought were gas pains that didn't
go away. So I called the midwives and they had me come in to get
checked. Sure enough-I was having preterm labor. They brought me from
their office to the labor and delivery at the adjoining hospital where
I was examined. I was 8 cm dilated, 100% effaced and they could see
most of the bag of waters below my cervix, meaning the baby was without
protected cushion of the amnio fluid. I was rushed to an emergency
c-section and 20 min later Cora Margaret was born. At one day short of
28 weeks, she weighed 2 lbs 10 oz at birth and measured 14 inches
We
are doing alright, in many ways things are as good as can be expected.
Cora is breathing on her own which is amazing news, we are currently
working on helping her learn to tolerate breastmilk so she can gain
weight and finish developing. We have a long journey ahead of us in the
NICU but are encouraged by her steady progress in the last day and a
half. I am sore from the surgery but mostly focused on Cora. My husband
has been amazing throughout and we have a great support system.
So, positive thoughts and prayers for Cora are appreciated as we learn more about what it means to have a premie daughter.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and I will update again when I know more.

Esma: I'll turn him into a flea. A harmless little flea. Then Ill put that flea in a box. And put that box inside another box. Mail that box to myself. And when it arrives. ILL SMASH IT WITH A HAMMER. Its brilliant, brilliant, brilliant I tell you. Genius I say.
Or to save on postage. Ill poison him with this.
