So responsible, thinking hav2 just took over :(

and the cost of flights is over the top crazy this late in the week.  Part of me still wants a beach vacay, and the other part of me says stay home and get more of the massive renovation projects done.  DH is no help.  He is willing to go either way with it.  I can't make a decision to save myself right now.  Beach? Pretty house?  Foo foo drink on balcony?  Foo foo drink over freshly painted and decorated several rooms.  I know which vacation will keep on giving, and which (very expensive) vacation means more relaxation.  Which to choose?  Ack!

  • If I had the $$ to spend, I'd splurge and go for the beach.  Then again, I love a good week or two on a beach.

ETA:  And based on the small amounts of info you've posted about your job, the relaxation may do you some good.  The projects will always be there.  Unless of course, you take the $$ to pay someone to do the projects and have a little staycation with a lot less $$$

  • The house projects will always be there.  Your ability to pick up and travel and spend time with your DH will not.  I'm extra sensitive about this right now...a coworker's husband was killed in a work accident on Thursday.  Go spend time with your hubby and don't look back.

  • I agree... Life is too short. Go to the beach and have a fantastic time. Did u check price line.com and cheap tickets.com?? Sometimes they change price every few hours to sell seats. GL!

  • could you drive to save some money (ha ha probably not much with gas being $4 a gallon) Or could you go to a different beach? Virginia Beach? SC somewhere? Sometimes it is NO fun being a responsible adult. You'll have fun and I doubt you'll regret it.

  • No way in hades will we EVER drive that torturous drive again.  We have done it three times when DD was younger, and we flew the last time we went down.  I am spoiled now.  18+ hours in the car...2 days, vs a 2 hour flight.  No brainer with a rowdy toddler.  We fly.  DH wants to wait and go in late August and over our anniversary.  Condos are much cheaper...half price from what they are right now.  We have another beach vacay already booked in NC for early June.  We travel 4 times a year, so we do not lack vacation time.  I think maybe DH's thinking might win out...especially since flights are so $$$$ right now.  Plus prime condo rental season.  Urrgh.  We thought about Gatlinburg for a hot second, but no leaves in the trees makes for a very gray view.  Add the possibility of snow in the mountain, and I am not so up for that.  We may stay home and go to Great Wolf for a stay, hit up the museum center, and the aquarium.  Then get some DIYs done here.  I just can't make a decision.  I hate having too many options.

  • You need to choose what will relax you the most, because you need it. I think that if you have to splurge to get that, it's a splurge that is worth it.

You deserve it-- get yourself a nice vacation!

  • Not sure where you are wanting to travel but have you checked out allegiantair? You'd have to drive to lexington to fly out and they only fly to certain airports but they are super cheap. We are flying allegiant this summer for our disney vacay.

I'm gonna go ahead and vote beach too! I would LOVE to be on a beach right now!

  • Since work has been so stressful, I would at least try to getaway for a few days, or staycation in town with no plans at all for doing house work.  I would probably vote for a short trip or doing things in town as you mentioned, and then a few days of painting or decorating.  Then you get the best of both worlds, and will get to enjoy looking at what you accomplished in the house everyday.  Since you're going to the beach in a few months, this may give you the best of both right now.

  • I guess I'm in the minority here, but I think I would stay home and make the most out of it. Especially since you're going away later this year. A vacation doesn't necessarily equal no stress.

Think of how nice it would be to get all those renovation projects off your to-do list. It seems like that would go a long way in ridding you of some of the everyday stress. Plus, we could have a play date. Stick out tongue

  • I just wish Dave Ramsey would let me do either.
