PCSing to Dyess AFB at 6 months Pregnant...

I am posting this because I am hoping someone from the Dyess AFB, Abilien, TX area will see it and help me out. I am supposed to move there around my 25 week mark. I am due August 19th. I am going to be a single mom and would like to know what stores are around there so I can know where to go to buy all my baby/nursery items. My weight allowance for my TMO is a single person's so I can't buy things here and take them with me so this means I have to start from scratch when I get there. HELP!! Any help would be appreciated!! This includes help on childcare options, whether I should live on or off base and if off base what a good part of town would be.

Thanks in advance I am very appreciative for all the help i can get!!

  • We got here when I was around 16 weeks pregnant. I don't know a lot about the area but I'll try to help.

For baby/nursery items there are the normal stores like Target and Wal-Mart. There is also a store called Kids Village that sells baby stuff. I've never been in but here is the website so you can get an idea of what they have. There might be other little independent stores like that around here but I'm just not sure.

I don't know anything about childcare because I'll be staying at home. The family advocacy office on base could probably help with that question. They are really nice and have a lot of information. When we first moved here I was required to go to a tricare maternity briefing for expecting moms. They give you a lot of info as far as what services are available to you on base, etc.

We have a 2 bedroom house on base and we really like it. Sorry I can't really help with much, we're still sort of new here too.

    Good luck with your move!

  • Thank you! That website should help get a feel for how much $$ will need to be saving/spending when I get there. Thanks a lot for your help!
