Last Fall I both volunteered and consigned. It depends on what you are looking for but there are very good prices to be had. The best stuff at the best prices can go during the early shop times for new mom, new to sale people, volunteers (I volunteered to get a bigger % back from my consigned stuff as well as shop early). So if you haven't shopped there before go to the website and get the new mom pass to shop early if possible.
Last Fall I got the girls winter coats and snow pants and a Lincoln logs toy ($5). I spent less than $10 each on the coats and the pants were $7. The coats are great for daycare since I don't worry about them getting ruined and snow pants are so spotty on if they'll need them (will we get enough snow) and you only use them a few times so the cheaper the better. I also got a few sweaters and stuff for Maggie. I generally look for things from Gap or Gymbo and since people are pricing them themselves you just have to know what you are looking to spend per piece.
They have a ton of actual baby gear - high chairs, activity centers, playpens, car seats, slings/carriers, strollers etc.
Oh and I got a JuJuBe backpack diaper bag for $15 in great condition, which was also awesome because I really wanted a backpack instead of my regular diaper bag for things like parks and zoo trips.
ETA: Also the last day of the sale most things are reduced 50% and I found some stuff then too when I was looking through for my own things.
I seriously love TotSwap. In the past I had just shopped there, but I consigned at the last event. I made some pretty decent money though I turned around and spent a good chunk of that at the sale. I'm bummed that I can't go to the Gaithersburg sale this time, but I absolutely plan on going the one in Frederick later in the month.
I agree that going as early in the sale as possible is a good idea. Last time I went early (as a consigner I got an early shopping pass) and it was nice to be there when the selection was really huge. But, I've also found some awesome deals on the last day of the sale.
