Contractions and 39 week appointment

Had my 39 week appointment yesterday...doctor said I am 2 cm 80 percent effaced and he then went ahead and stripped my membranes to hopefully stir something up and allow me to go into labor naturally (I have been trying to avoid potentially being induced at 41 weeks) and he said that if someone is on the verge of labor then sometimes stripping can facilitate the process.  It actually wasnt that painful (heard a lot of horror stories), really not much worse than my last internal! So all last night I have been spotting and having timeable contractions 8 minutes apart (that are pretty intense wrap around my back and down my legs) but havent gotten any closer together.  So, I was just wondering if you all have been through this or if this is just more False labor....I am not going to the hospital until this gets much closer together because I am thinking this could go on for a few days ;( Its just so hard for me to tell if this is the "real" thing or what....thanks!

    My Ob says if they are 4 minutes apart, lasting one minute for one hour then I should be in the car on the way there. (This is my second and my first I was in labor for 10 hours) Hopefully this is the real thing for you!

    My Drs won't strip membranes because they said it just causes false labor...so your contractions could be false labor, or of course it could be the real thing! You'll just have to wait it out and see if they get stronger/closer. GL!

    This is true! I had contractions after having my membranes stripped at both of my last appointments (38 wks and 39 wks), and they just ended up fading away after awhile.  Keep timing them though in case they are real and end up putting you in labor.  But it's all a guessing game, if it's time, they will get closer and stronger together!
