Tell me where you got your shelves

Baby D's crib is full of books, stuffed animals, and blankets.  I'd like to get some shelves and wall shadow-box type things to display them so they don't end up in a closet.  I've done some browsing online (Kohls, BBB, Target) and it seems like each shelf is like $20-30!!  That just seems expensive for me.  I'm not opposed to buying unpainted shelves but I don't know how hard they would be to paint and match to the espresso furniture we have for him.

Any recommendations?  Thanks ladies!

Re: Tell me where you got your shelves

  • We went to Good Wood Unfinished Furniture and bought bookcases that we will finish ourselves.  We refinished the dresser, so we should be able to get the shelves to match relatively closely.  They weren't cheap, though - $200 each for the 5 shelf bookcases.

Ikea had a few great options.

My FIL said he would make some for us - so I am counting on that until my next and final ikea trip before she is due :) then I may play it safe and get one or two while I am there!

  • Definitely check out Ikea if you have one relatively close.

  • I got mine from Target. Paid a ton (about $50 for 3 shelves). They can barely hold any weight. I'm pissed and Target wouldn't take them back because they were opened so I'm stuck with them. They are now hanging and holding very light weight items (picture frames, empty boxes for decoration, a stuffed animal) after they fell down one night while holding about 7 books.

Moral of my story - don't buy them from Target.

  • I'm sadly not near an ikea, but this site looked decent priced. www.ennospace.com

I know nothing about it though.
