Still throwing names around and wanted input. I've mentioned it in other posts, but the names I like for a girl are: Lily (DH knows someone with that name so he doesn't want to use it), Chloe (someone I work with named her daughter this), Layla, I kinda like Lydia, Abagail (used too much, but like it for a middle name), and Zoe.
So when you see/hear Layla, do you sing Eric Clapton? What are your thoughts on this name? I want a name this is not common, but not "out there" either.
Now, if we find out we are having a boy, that's another thread. One gender at a time:)
Anyone have any other name suggestions that are similar?
Re: Layla?
I like Layla, but prefer it spelled Leila.
I mentioned this name to DH and the first thing he said was "stripper name". ? I don't so much agree, but I think that might not be an uncommon opinion. After considering the name further, I did realize it wouldn't age well- ie, I just couldn't picture the name Leila on a resume or business card, nor on an older woman.
Of you other choices, I also like Zoe but same thing- not sure if it will age well.
What about Lillian? You could always use the nn Lily but then your DD would have an option.
It's not my favorite name but I think it's fine. Lydia is my all-time favorite girls name so that gets my vote. Lily is okay but I prefer it as a nn for Lillian. Chloe and Zoe are NMS. They sound like dog names to me. Abigail is pretty but super popular.
And I do think of the Eric Clapton song every time I hear Layla.
This. I do like the name, we considered it too, but we prefer Lila - that's what we named DD!

I don't like Chloe and Zoe. They always seem really modern/trendy/cutesy to me (even though I'm well aware that Chloe is actually a really old name).
I like Lydia. I think its soft and feminine while also being strong and spunky (a rare balence)
I think Abigail is really boring, but I think it works for a MN
I like Layla. I think it leans towards being too cutesy, but doesn't actually cross the line. I don't automatically think of Eric Clapton, but I used to babysit a Layla. I think it helps to have another association.
I love Layla(spelled like this) and I do tend to think of the song but I think that's a fun extra thing for your child. I also looove Abigail(spelled like this) it was a strong contender for me when thinking of names.
I also like Delilah, could nickname her Lilah. I think it's unique and pretty but not too out there and the nickname is still close to Layla but wouldn't be sung to a song(even though I can think of two songs that I can sing off of the name Delilah, but hey! that's what makes it fun!)

I have a Layla. DD's name is Layla, and the last thing I thought about when naming her was the Eric Clapton song. But whenever we meet someone new, and introduce DD, the first thing that comes out of most peoples' mouths is, "Like the song?" It doesn't bother me at all. I love the name, spelled Layla. But then again, I may be prejudice. I also like the name Lydia. Happens to be what we're naming DD #2!
We have a Layla too, and EVERYONE sings to her. It's not a terrible thing, though. I'm much more bothered by it's surge in popularity.
That being said, I love Lydia.
My best friend's little girl and she is also my daughter's best friend is
Layla Jean
i love the name
she's the cutest little thing!
