*adamsbabble-- question?*

Kessler, I saw your check-in post saying you don't celebrate Halloween, Christmas, or Easter? I am curious on why. I have had a few of my students tell me that they also don't celebrate these holidays but the reasons are really varied. I am curious on why, if you are willing to share? If you aren't, then I totally understand-- it is a very personal choice :).

  • Butting in....

I saw that too Kessler and wanted to tell you I don't think you're weird... we don't do Santa or Easter bunny either....we celebrate Christmas and Easter... just no bunnies with candy or fat dudes who fly... that's not what the holidays are about - for us anyway.  Although I certainly don't pass judgment on those who do those things - to each their own :)

  • okay, but no flames!

we do celebrate christmas and easter - both very important and special holidays to us!  however, our celebration does not include any of the secular stuff.  we put up a tree and lights and we buy christmas gifts and listen to carols, but the whole santa thing is overboard for me.  first and foremost, christmas is about the birth of Christ and easter is about the death and more importantly, the resurrection.  halloween we haven't celebrated in about 5 years just b/c we feel it goes against the teachings of our faith (fear, etc.) and it doesn't hold any meaning for us anyhow.

and yes, hannah, i don't really think we are weird - lol, at fat dudes who fly!

  • yeah i love my fall colored wreath on my door and my non-carved pumpkins on my front step... but they are just my fall decorations, they have nothing to do with halloween to me.

  • I agree with the fact that sometimes people lose the true meaning of the holidays. We plan on focusing more on the true meaning of Christmas and Easter. As for Halloween, my family has always participated but we never decorated with any of the "spooky" things. Our costumes were never ghosts, witches, or anything like that. And I don't like the graveyard stuff.
