3rd Trimester

stripped membranes anyone?

So this was probably the most uncomfortable experience I have had in a while. Anyone else gone through this? I am really hoping it will kick things into high gear. I am just about 3 cm and 80 percent. OB thinks it could be tonight or tomorrow...I have heard that for the last week though. So I am hoping the stripping did something other than make me feel really sore!!

Re: stripped membranes anyone?

  • I was crazy and had it done twice with my ds.  It did nothing for me.  I went 5 days late.  I was also walking around 3cms dilated for weeks! I don't know if I will get my membranes stripped this time.  It hurt like a b8tch and did nothing.

Yeah my Drs say it doesn't work, so they won't even do it!

  • I was 80% and 3 cm on Wednesday when I had mine stripped.  The doc said the last few patients she'd done it for went into active labor within 24 hours.  I'm still sitting here knocked up.

  • With my 2nd (30 weeks with my 3rd now) I was 9 days overdue and about 1-2 cm dilated but not effaced. My doctor did the stretch and sweep and I went into labour the next evening (lasted about 4 hrs). It could have worked better for me as I was already overdue. I think that is one of those practices though that can be very hit and miss. If you are already 3 cm and 80% you may be in luck though. Hope you don't have much longer to wait.
  • My doctor beleives it works and helps.  I had mine done Wed.  Still no baby
  • Yeah I figured. I hate all this false hope from my OB and MW. I will be induced next week if he isn't here yet so at least I know I won't be going more than a week overdue. They keep checking me and saying "your cervix is so soft" and "your bag of waters is just bulging" and "his head is soooo low". For craps sake...none of this really means anything!

  • They did it a few times when I was pregnant with my first ...it made me have some pretty consistent contractions. However I still went 11 days over but my son was born in 3 hours...so maybe it helped my body get ready??
  • My doctor was going to do it... he believes that it just makes you more favorable towards labor.  But, on Tuesday I was closed.  Here is to next week.  Hope it worked for you... Because where you are right now will be me this coming Tuesday.

  • I had mine done at my 38 week appt, and my 39 week appt.  The doc thought for sure it would work because I was 4 cm dilated at 38 weeks and am 5 cm dilated, and 80% effaced this last week. All it did was cause cramping the entire night and didn't work (now that it's 3 days later). Oh well, I guess it was worth the shot. I haven't decided if I'll let him do it again this week...here's to hoping it'll happen soon on its own!

  • I was told it only works on 10% of women by my OB and so I didn't do it
