Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD doesnt get that she has to tip the bottle/cup

Shes beef EBF until now and she is weaned, but she doesnt understand to tip the bottles or cups, she just ends up playing with them until i hold them for her, or lay her down and let her hold her own. Just let her figure it out even if it means skipping a feeding?

Re: DD doesnt get that she has to tip the bottle/cup

  • LO's pediatration said that tipping is a pretty abstract concept to master and babies who weren't bottle fed tend to take a bit longer to grasp it because for them, sucking alone led to liquid.  LO still breast-feeds but he does have a sippy and unless it's completely full, I have to tip it up for him.

  • DS is EBF too and never took bottles. He didn't understand to tip back the sippy either unless I did it for him. I started giving him a straw cup. He figured that out much easier and knows how to use it now.

Maybe you can try giving her that instead. We use the Nuby ones.

  • Max is the same way, but he refuses to even hold or touch the bottle in the first place, much less a sippy cup.
  • yeah, DD doesnt always hold her bottles or cups. Sometimes i think she purposly spills and make a huge mess so i will come hold it for her:)

I have tried the straw ones, she doesnt get that either, we hav also purchased the tilty cups, which is a great concept except they spill everywhere. I will just try to be patient, SO glad im not alone!

  • DD likes the Tilty cup and straw cups, so she doesn't have to tilt them.

THIS! We just recently got a straw cup, and it is wonderful. He will hold it himself and loves drinking his juice and water all on his own!
