GD question! (Not test related)

I was not diagnosed with GD, but I have a question about it.

I had a bowl of Cheerios and a fruit pouch at 8am. (I was feeling lazy, ok)!  At about 10am I fell asleep without warning and DD woke me up about 15 minutes ago.  I have been having these sleep spells for a few days, so I checked my blood sugar levels with my home kit and it was 86.  Is this too low? I checked my history with the machine and my 'after meal' numbers are all in the 100's to 120's.  I will test it again after lunch.

  • I'm not an expert on blood sugars, but I don't think that is too low. If you start feeling shaky, light headed, sweaty, then I would drink some juice and check it after a few minutes. And definitely call your doc if you are concerned.

  • No, it's not too low. My OB said they'd want me to call in if my blood sugar was under 65. For two hours after a meal, 86 is fine.

ETA: Always ask your doctor if you're concerned or not feeling well though!

  • The sleep spells are probably just from actually being sleepy, because when my blood sugar gets low I feel shaky and dizzy and like I might throw up. Call your dr though if you aren't feeling well.
  • Thanks, Ladies!  I thought it was in the normal range. I wasn't sleepy and had a full night of sleep, for once this week.  I will give my Doc a call.  I hate all of these 'symptoms' you have to worry about.  Is it May yet?!?  lol

  • Hmm.. Canadians must measure blood sugar differently!

I was diagnosed with GD because my results came back at 15 - they typically diagnose at 10 and higher.

My goal is to have my blood sugar below a 6.7 after meals, and below 5.3 when waking up.

  • I hope that's not bad...I got a 90 on my GD screen and the doctor's office acted like I did a great job.

The number she's talking about is completely unrelated to the GD screen. Also she was worried about her number being too low, not too high.
