I'm sure I sound like a complete amatuer but how did you dress your newborn in the summer? Both of my kids were born in the winter so this will be new for me.
Mine was May so alittle earlier than summer and it was still a tad chilly (I remember wearing a sweatshirt 4 days pp bc it was windy). I kept dc wrapped in a blanket at home and it was always had a onsie and sleeper on. As it got to the summer, it was whatever summer outfit i wanted. I think many leave in onsies a lot, but with the AC running and all, make sure you keep their little body warm when they are super little (i'm sure you know that).

lol I know, I know. I am just second guessing myself since it's a little different when they are so young.
DD spent the majority of time in a onsie because apparently she inherited the furnace gene from her dad! She was always sweaty even with the air on! Since we swaddled her in a flannel blanket at night, she even slept in a onsie!
I'm sure that motherly instinct will kick in. I think as long as you keep their bodies nice and warm as they are super tiny/young then they are fine. So even if it is in the dead of summer, you may still need that onsie AND outfit.
DS was born at the end of June. At home, he was either in a onesie + socks (b/c his feet were ALWAYS cold - didn't matter what the temp was, or what the rest of him felt like; the kid's feet were never warm) for daytime or a sleep gown + socks for nighttime. He hated being swaddled, or else it likely would've been a onesie + socks + swaddling blanket for nighttime. When we took him out, he usually wore those one-piece outfits from Carter's (basically glorified onesies... I think they call them creepers or sunsuits or something?). We tried shorts + onesies a few times, but he was just too skinny - even the NB shorts fell off of him, hence sticking to one-piece outfits.
We also kept a lightweight blanket over his carseat - we LOVE the Aden & Anais cotton muslin swaddling blankets as a lightweight, breathable blanket for summertime.
DD sweat a lot, she was born in April, but I dressed her like summer because she would sweat at an early age. We used only onsies and those creepers - they snapped down the front and underneath. No socks usually. Most of the time it was diaper only when it was really hot, unless we went out.
DD was born in mid-September but it was still hot. She wore gowns with mitten cuffs, or just a onesie, or just a diaper. I also had a couple of cute little outfits that consisted a tank top and a diaper cover. If I felt it was too chilly for her I just wrapped her up in a receiving blanket.
Ella was born at the end of June. She spent a majority of time in sleepers. I did put her in those creepers by Carter's or a cute little sundress if we were going out somewhere. My son was a winter baby...so I know what you mean about it being new!!
Re: Those with babies born in the summer
Summer clothes...LOL. Sorry

Thank you everyone!
I bought a couple really cute sundresses at the consignment sales last weekend, I can't wait to put her in them!
