Clicky poll: Should daycare replace lost CD?

H's daycare somehow lost one of her cloth diapers yesterday. I was talking about it with her teacher today and they offered to replace it with no prompting from me. I honestly didn't expect that but am glad they offered. I don't really think they should hold any liability for items that parents bring to school. What happens if they lose a kid's jacket or something more expensive? What do y'all think?

  • If it was simply misplaced, then IDK that it's really the daycare's fault. However, if they accidentally threw away a cloth diaper because they were used to tossing disposables and then realized it was gone too late to go dig it out, then yeah, I think they should replace it because it's truly their fault. KWIM?

Her teacher remembers seeing it, but they have no idea what happened to it. She thinks the replacement teachers that come in while she and the other teacher go to lunch may have misplaced or thrown it away.

  • I'd like to know how the heck they misplace a cloth diaper?  We have a wetbag that they tie to the changing table, and they put the diaper and wipe in the wetbag when they change LO. The only place they could have misplaced it is the garbage.  I'm sorry, but my cloth diapers are too expensive to lose at daycare.

I don't necessarily agree.  Our daycare did throw one of ours out by accident.  I forgot to bring a wetbag and they were putting it in plastic bags.  The cleaning lady threw out the bag by accident.  I felt it was really my fault.  I guess it depends upon the situation.  Accidents happen.

  • I would expect them to pay for a lost CD.  Honestly, I sure hope they threw it away and didn't "misplace" a dirty diaper.  Yuck!  If it was pretty much anything else, I wouldn't expect them to pay for it because the kids could have lost it, but a diaper?  Yeah, I would expect them to keep track of that.

  • If it is something I could reasonably lose myself (sock, hair doohickeys, that sort of thing) then no I wouldn't expect them to replace it. Something like a diaper, jacket, her pants I would expect reimbursement.

Yeah, I have no idea. She came home wearing some other kid's diaper a few weeks ago so I'm thinking it must be an issue with the fill-in teachers. They have a wetbag to put the dirty diapers in and I put all the clean diapers for the day in her backpack (both with her name on it). They also have an area under the changing table for diapers that's sectioned off and labeled for each kid. I offered to label each diaper but they said it wasn't necessary.
