Or ear tubes as an adult? I am looking into having both of these procedures in the next few months. I am currently trying to decide on an ENT to preform them and research the different methods. I'd love to hear any personal experience and if you found them to be successful in treating chronic sinus and ear infections. Thanks!
Re: NBR: Has anyone ever had sinus surgery?
ME! I had it done about 5 years ago and it CHANGED MY LIFE! I had sinus surgery, corrective for a deviated septum and my turbinates shaved down. Prior to the surgery I had constant pnd, chronic sinusitis and at least two bouts of laryngitis per year. I'd had these issues my entire life and didn't even realize it until after I was healed and actually blew my nose for the first time.
I can't recommend a doctor because I had mine done in NYC, although if I had to do it again, I'd go back to the same doctor. I haven't found an ENT here that compares to him, although I only go once a year for minor issues. I have debating making an appointment with him when I'm in NY, but never have the time.
I warn you, the first 5 days of recovery I thought I'd made the biggest mistake of my life, but once the gauze came out of my nose (6 feet on either side), I felt immediately better. Also, I learned during recovery that I'm allergic to Cipro, so I had some issues with that. But otherwise, like I said, one of the best decisions ever.
I have had tubes 2x as an adult and I'm about to go in for my third time around. The tube surgery is no big deal and recovery a breeze. When I had my second tube placed I also had a deviated septum corrected and like the PP said, it was a rough recovery and took way longer to feel better than I had thought.
I used Dr. Alvarez with ENT Institute and had no problems with him. I'm returning to him to have another tube placed at the end of this month. Apparently I just don't have a good eustachian tube--that's what he told me.
Good luck with your decision!
