Did your husband go to BF class?

My husband is going, but he's not excited about it. I think he needs to know how his kid is going to be fed though. Our class instructor highly recommended that the husbands go.

So did yours go? Was he uncomfortable? (not that I care if my husband is uncomfortable - I'm just wondering).

Re: Did your husband go to BF class?

  • Yes and no.  It was really nice to have him there because now he knows what to look for, and if I'm having any trouble bfing, there's a good chance he can help.  He was really glad to gain all of the knowledge he did there as well.

  • Mine went - he got more out of it than I did.
  • Yes and no, he was fine with it.

  • he went-- Igave him a choice and he said he wanted to go. There were at least 5 other guys there, and some women without their DH's. He liked it alot, bc they showed videos about skin to skin contact after birth and how the baby instinctually finds your breast when laid ontop of you and it was really awesome to watch. DH was so excited afterwards bc it made him realize how close we are to our due date and how nice it will be to see our son BFing and what he can do to help out.

  • Haven't had mine yet, but yes, my DH is going. He's not thrilled about it, but recently, at his part time job, the women there ALL told him he needs to go. I couldn't have scripted it better if I had tried!

But they told him that it's helpful for both parents to hear what they say so that he can be a good support person for me.  And so that he can fully understand what I need and when, and what the baby needs, etc.

  • Okay - good. Thanks everyone!
  • Mine will come.

On the sign up info for classes they say the dad should come, so he is.

  • I have not gone yet, but he will attend with me. I want him to be aware of how beneficial BF is, and how difficult it will be. I figure it is a way he can participate since he will not be able to actually BF. And, I am hoping he can learn something when it comes to pumping and EBF since he will be the one feeding then.
  • Mine didn't come with me to the free one at the hospital b/c he was busy that night.  I was bummed cuz all the other husbands were there.  But it was also covered a bit in our Bradley class, which he handled much better than the partner assisted perineal massage topic, LOL!

  • He's not psyched about it, but yes he's coming. I called and they said it's designed as a couples class.
  • Mine went.  He was really glad that he did, I was too.  He actually ended up asking a ton of questions and getting really involved.
  • He did go... I figured if I had to drive 30 minutes to learn about BF then he was going too!  And with my pregnancy brain, I needed someone else there to help me remember it!  There were lots of other men in the class as well and towards the end they were all gathered around my husband's cell phone watching the play-by-play of the Clemson game... men!
  • Yes, and am so glad he did. He's a huge supporter of me breastfeeding and I think paid attention in class better than I did. He even helped me pick out my breastpump.

Also, almost everyone in our class brought their spouses. They were encouraged to come on the pamphlet.

  • Yep -- mine went. ?Every woman in the class had her partner there with her. ?He's glad that he went -- there's just so much to learn and appreciate about BF. ?I don't think he realized until the class how hard it can be and the actual technique that goes into it.
  • DH went.  He wasn't uncomfortable in fact he retains info better than I, so I think he will help me when I'm anxious and worried.
  • My hubby was very supportive and was okay with going to the class.  It was funny as he was the only male in the class and even asked the instructor questions.

Afterwards, he mentioned he actually learned something and is a big support of BFing now.

  • MH will be going with me.  When I called to sign up I asked if husbands would be there or if it was just for the women.  She said that they really encourage husbands to go and all of the other couples were bringing theirs.
