ovulation before first period?

Is it possible?  I just stopped bleeding in the last week and now I am getting those all too familar pangs of pain.  geez I better be careful....I already have my 2 under 2.  All kidding aside though...can you ovulate before your first real period?

Re: ovulation before first period?

  • I couldn't believe how much EWCM I had at 2 weeks PP. Sure enough I started my period a few weeks later. I was like "Cmon!" We TTC for two years and had to see fertility specialists and use meds to get pregnant and now that I have a kid my body decides to get with the program?

  • Yep, I've heard it can happen.  There are women around who get pregnant without ever having a period.  Yikes.

  • Yes.

This is how women can get PG before they even have a period and a "surprise!" baby happens.

  • Well yes!  Just as in a typical cycle, you will ovulate , then get your period a short time later. The trouble is not knowing when that is taking place, since we are all postpartum. That's why it's important to use a form of BC when you haven't gotten that first period yet.

  • Possible? I would say 100% yes on ovulation before menstruation, assuming the woman's reproductive system is working correctly (I am in the IF camp, so who knows with my body...) I have never heard anything about the first period PP being somehow ovulation-free.

I hear you on feeling like it is going to happen at any moment. I had cramping, EWCM, etc. but AF is still staying away, hooray!
