so you guys can tell me if, in your experience, this is what an infected ear does?
Last week A had a ton of waxy looking stuff on the outside of her ear. I cleaned it off and called the pedi. She didn't have a fever and wasn't irritable but did pull on it a couple of times. It smelled foul. I went into the pedi and she looked but didn't see any fluid in there. She gave me some sediment drops and said it was just to clean out anything that was in there but it wasn't infected.
Yesterday A had the same thing happen in the other ear, although this time it smelled a ton worse. I called the pedi again and they said to use the drops in the other ear as well and to call if anything changed because she might want us to see the ENT.
Do y'all need to see the pic to tell me if you think maybe I didn't give the doc good information so maybe her ear was misdiagnosed? By the time we went to the pedi the wax was gone. I am wondering if it was pus instead of wax and maybe y'all could help me with that.

I'm curious. I hope it's nothing serious.
Ditto. Except replace grandma with grandpa

seriously. all talk and no action.
AHHHH!!!! SO GROSSSSSS!!!!!
meh. i got nothing.
Your child is disgusting. Probably couldn't get too much for her on the black market with ears like that.
Meh, nothing here either. Just looks like runny wax? But the smelly thing is weird.
F. I was just about to craigslist her.
never seen anything like that out of my kids' ears. i have high tolerance for ear goo b/c eve has an ear pit and i have to clean it once a week. jackpot on that one
not grossed out, but yeah- the smell thing can't be a good sign.
oh, and my boys have waxy ears (to the point that the dr. that i don't like at their pedi always mentions it) but it has never oozed out.
I think DS has had that before. I have a horrible memory but I don't remember it being stinky. I believe it was was an eardrum ruptured. And by ruptured I mean there was like a little flap/slit that let the liquid drain out. This was before tubes. I would take her in because if that is the case I think you need antibiotic drops to prevent a possible infection.
And that's not gross. Gross is when your kid picks his nose and feels the need to give it to you to dispose of booger.
Not gross. Gross is when a kid you don't even know pukes into your hands b/c you happen to be in proximity had held out your hands to see if you could lead him to the bathroom.
If your kid had that kind of purulent fluid building in their inner ear, they'd probably have been in severe pain prior to the eardrum rupturing to allow for that kind of escape. There can be smelly bacterial growth in excessive earwax that poses no danger or actual infection to the child.
If the previous incident was a ruptured eardrum, believe me they'd have been able to see it. I personally feel that it's most likely just really gross earwax and nothing more. I'd have to actually look into the ear with an Otoscope to confirm, obviously, but it's just not painting a picture of infection to me.
Both my kids have nasty ears too. They usually have to scrape a bunch out just to see in their ears.
Ok, thanks, taytee. I appreciate your response. She looked in both ears and didn't see fluid buildup in either, nor ruptured drums. When I put the drops in the ears they didn't smell the next day. I am going to assume that the doc was right. Very odd, though.

You'd better be careful. If you keep laying down wisdom like that, you're going to be getting all the pages for medical advice on the board. ***Nurse mlf625, what is wrong with my baby?!? HELP!!*** I mean, you should just prepare yourself is all I'm saying.
