Baby's first cold...WDYD?

LO has his first cold. He's congested and coughing/sneezing a bit more than usual but other than that seems to be in good spirits and is eating well. No fever and maybe a little wheezing at times. DH thinks we should call the Pedi. I think we should just keep an eye on him because I feel if it's just a cold, there's not really anything they can do.

So what would/did you do when your LO had their first cold? Go to the doctor anyway or just wait it out, watching him/her to make sure things didn't get worse?

If he's wheezing then I would definitely call. Just call and talk to a nurse to see if they think you need to bring him in. My LO started wheezing the other day and turns out she has bronchitis and is on a nebulizer. Definitely call. Better to be safe.

My LO has the same thing, minus the wheezing. She has an appointment today (for her 1 month check up) so I will find out today.

When LO had her first cold, it came with a fever, so we went in to the pedi. They did blood work (not fun!) and confirmed that it was a virus. The only thing we could do was saline/suction and run the humidifier. If she hadn't spiked a fever, we wouldn't have gone in, but your LO's wheezing would worry me a little. If DD started wheezing, I would probably call.

I would call and describe the symptoms and they will help you determine if he needs to be seen by the Dr. In the meantime, use a humidifier, baby rub on the chest, saline drops for nose if necessary, and suction snot out as needed. but most likely there is nothing you can do and it just has to run it's course. I would call about the wheezing, though.
