Gah FML....

Ok so I posted the other day that we got a new car. It was used but barely, only had like 5000 miles on it. Well today the dealership called back and told me that their finacing wants to jack my interest rate up to 23% and my payment to $425 ( $325 now). The guy told me he could get me a brand new Focus thats never even been driven, unloaded off the truck this morning, for 0% and a payment of $350 a month so their finacing wont try to screw me. The thing is, its a 5 speed and I have never driven one and really dont feel like learning right now. I know its petty and stupid but Im starting to get uncomfortable and worrying about gear shifting and trying not to stall out doesnt seem fun to me at all.

It gets worse though. We apparently didnt "officially" buy the car as we were waiting on a response from the finance and it was Saturday evening when we bought the car. She had us sign everything but like one paper, quoted us our interest rate and assured us she would never in a million years let us leave with the car if she wasnt 99.999% sure her arrangement would be approved. Well...guess what. I traded my Cobalt SS in for this car and nobody told them to hold til the final papers were signed because theyve already sent my old car off somewhere else! So now I have to choose to stick witht the car I like and get screwed in the rear on interest or try to drive a 5 speed. DFs friend was the car salesman and he feels so bad about it but I cant help but be mad at him.

I really didnt need this today...

Oh and its totally irrelevant that Im upset over this fact and Im soo blaming the hormones but the new one doesnt have a sunroof... Ugh

  • You need to put your foot down and tell them to either do as they promised with the interest and such, get you a new car at a similar rate (and one you don't have to learn to drive-an automatic Focus) or get your car back.  They f*cked up and need to fix the mistake.  If they didn't have the paperwork completed your trade in should never have left the lot.  I know its a friend, but if he promised you something, that needs to be what happens.

When I bought my car this summer, the whole experience was great...until we went to do the financing.  I had already talked to a lady at my bank, had a great interest rate and wanted to do everything through her.  The car salesman had been GREAT, but when he found that out he started trying to push me to do the financing with him.  And I mean PUSHING!  I finally told him to lay off, or I'd buy the car with someone else.  It worked.

Thats how I feel. By the time I would pay 23% in interest for the car we have we would pay WAY more than a brand new one at 0%. Hes trying to say a brand new manual costs less than an automatic and the lowest price he can get me for an automatic is $400. How I see it is, THEIR financing is what screwed up and therefore they should be more flexible. I signed papers under the premise of what they told me, I dont appreciate this being turned around on me.

DF is the one talking to him so I feel thats some of the problem. Hes not my friend and Im a hormonally driven bulldog right now so I wont be so nice when I go up there at 4:30. I dont see how the difference between a manual and an automatic could be $50 a month, maybe they should worry less about their commision and more about fixing there f*ck up. I do not want to have to worry about stalling a car out with my baby in the back seat, I mean I live in WV, like 90% of all the roads are on hills!

DF told me they sent my car to their sister lot to get ready to be sold so they can get it back but it still irks me...

  • BS!!! you tell them to put you in something like what you bought. They can find more than 1 freakin car that meets your needs.

OR say f it and go to another dealership.

driving a stick is a challenge and not something I would want to start right now....

    sorry. this stinks

  • Could you try to arrange your own financing with a local credit union? It's worth a couple phone calls.

I definitely would refuse to pay the 23% interest rate OR to sub another car. They effed up. They need to fix it, or you need to demand your trade-in back and walk. Time to get big pregnant lady angry on someone's a$$.

  • In my opinion I would say go with the Focus. It would be brand new, better payments, and a 5 speed isn't too hard to learn, especially the newer ones. Maybe I am biased though as I was raised in a Ford family and I have a focus that is 10 years old and is still in excellent working condition.

  • That really sucks!!!  I'm sorry :(  I would say that if you don't know how to drive a stick, don't get one right now.  I completely prefer a stick to an automatic, but it takes a while to really get the hang of it, and you REALLY don't want to have to deal with learning how to drive a stick when you have a new baby.  When I was buying a new car last fall, I really wanted to buy a manual, but my best friend (who has a six year old and loves manuals too) told me that it's better to have an automatic with a young child because you'll need to be able to have that extra hand free.

Get your old car back, cancel the deal with this car place, and go somewhere else.

If this part ended up not working out, who's to say the next deal won't be just as messy?
