I'm worried I just did something stupid.

DD was really unhappy yesterday and we think it was gas -- possibly due to something I ate (cauliflower probably).  I decided I'd just eat bland things for a bit to see if that helped but DD started feeling better last night, after about 24 hours of being unhappy.  I have a baby nurse who started today because I need a hand and have been feeling overwhelmed and we had a conversation about diet this morning.  I'm a pescatarian but I don't eat much fish as DH is a vegetarian so I really only eat it when I'm out.  So the baby nurse was concerned about how much protein I'm getting (as am I).  I told her I eat eggs but she said I should also eat beans.  She knows DD had bad gas yesterday and agreed that it was probably the cauliflower and yet she still suggested I eat beans.  Won't that be a problem, too?  Well I just ate an Amy's Organic frozen burrito for lunch because it has beans in it.  Am I an idiot?  I guess I have to see if DD is bothered by it or not but I don't want to make my baby sick!  I should've just had some plain rice and eggs or something.  I'm really regretting this already -- what was I thinking?

  • well, what's done is done and all you can do is wait for the outcome. nuts have proteins in them too, don't they?

  • Yes, she also suggested nuts but for some reason she said beans multiple times so I got it in my head that I need to eat beans!  She does seem to have done a lot of research on healthy eating.  We only have her here for a couple of days and DD is being really sweet today so I guess the worst that happens is that she gets gassy and cranky tomorrow or Saturday and the baby nurse can show me how to help her feel better.  I just know I'll feel really terrible, though, if I make LO sick.  Fingers crossed...
  • You never know what is going to cause problems with a BF baby! Maybe she'll be just fine. Mine can't handle broccoli/cauliflower but for the most part does fine with dairy (if I have too much her poop will be green, but if I'm careful about it nothing changes). I haven't had beans since I had her.

  • Oh don't worry about it. If she has gas, give her some Gripe Water. We have Little Tummy's brand and its natural oils/extracts and works better than Mylicon.
