Pediatrician was irritated at me when we went for our 6 month check up because I wasn't being diligent with food. "you're raising a milk baby" (whatever that means) is what she told me.
The issue is that HE.HATES.FOOD. we started with veggies (Sweet potatoes and peas) and he was having NONE of it. So then I thought, b/c BM is so sweet, maybe let him try a fruit and he hated that too. Kid HATES food. I don't want to make this stressful for him and then scar him for life.
I don't know what to do, help help help.I don't like getting yelled at.
Re: How do you get your LO to like food?
Ok first of all, your pedi needs to calm to F down. I know plenty of babies that aren't even started on solids (including cereal) until 6 months, and she's acting like your LO should be entirely on solids by now. So disregard that for now and don't worry about it!
We struggled getting DS onto solids. I think it was a texture thing with him. How does your DS do with cereal? Does he like it? If he does, I would try two things. First, start playing with the consistency of the cereal so he gets used to different textures. Second, try mixing some purees in with the cereal so he gradually gets the taste for them.
In addition to the texture thing, I think my DS didn't like purees because of how bland they were. I ended up periodically making my own mash-ups because they had more flavor. To be perfectly honest, we just kind-of muddled our way through purees. I was never good about giving them and it was a relief when DS could start table foods because he never did take a liking to purees. And he is perfectly healthy and eats very well now, so tell your pedi to put that in her pipe and smoke it!
All of this & LMAO!
1 - your pedi needs to chill. Unless your baby isn't growing, there's no reason that it should be a concern at all.
2 - Baby led weaning is pretty cool. Basically, instead of purees you just offer "real food" and see what happens. Let the baby play with it, mush it around, and because babies are babies, they'll put it in their mouths (everything, including paper and lint and all manner of icky stuff at my house). DS has never really been into any kind of "baby food." People-food, though - he loves! His first food was steamed stalks of broccoli. He loved raw carrot sticks, especially for teething. Nowadays, he'll eat anything he can feed himself, but he does not like to be "fed." It certainly makes mealtime easier...he just eats what we eat.
Don't stress about it. The last thing you want is for mealtime to become a power struggle.
he doesnt like cereal either, and I know as a kid I hate foods with certain textures, so I'm wondering if that's his issue.
Do they have books on baby led weaning? I know X is interested in 'big people food' b/c he reaches for it all the time but he has no teeth so how do you make sure he doesn't choke?

I agree try baby lead weaning...I can't say I know too much about it, but it sounds like that might work better for him!
