SSN help

I know that I could just google this, but I think someone here probably has the answer...

We finally got Luke's birth certificate so tomorrow I'm going to run to the SS office to get him a SSN/card so we can file our taxes.

Anything I need to bring with me besides his birth certificate and adoption decree? (and obviously ID for myself)

    We had to have her immunization record to "prove" she was still alive.  Even though I had her with me.  I've had a couple of other friends who also had to do this when getting SS cards for their children.  You may not need it, but it definitely will save you a trip if you do!

    we needed a copy of medical records and his birth certificate.. and make sure your going to the downtown ss card office. there is a special one just for getting new cards! and get there right at 9 or you will wait forever!

    Medical records?!? So I have to go to the clinic and have them make copies for me? Ugh. This is a pain in the rear.

    I'm going to the St. Cloud office, which shouldn't be as busy hopefully.

    I went onto the SSA website to see what I needed. We were doing a name change instead of a new card, so I brought every piece of adoption paperwork I could find.

    I had to do brand new numbers for both boys - i brought birth certificates and adoption decrees, and of course ID for myself. I also needed to know DH's SSN too (which I have memorized) I just went to the SSA website as well.

    did you call and make sure that you can get the card there? we went to a local one and they sent us downtown on chicago...

    I didn't call, one of my daycare kids was recently adopted and her dad said that's where they went. I'd better double check, you know how dads can be sometimes.

    I didn't know this and had to go back with Ben's immunization record.  I wished I had asked before I went.

    I would call and try to speak with someone before had. We took Decree and Birth Certificate to get new number with new name.
