Re: just another reason to move to Canada

  • I think if I had the time, I would CD.  You can get them in kits?  Is that just a Canadian thing?

I'm the same way. If I were a SAHM I would totally CD.

You can do CD trials that include everything that you would need to see if you like it.  You may need to buy wipes and detergent, but I think everything else is there.  We didn't do the trial, but I am pretty sure that is how it works at Jillian's Drawers.

Both Yankee and I work full time and cloth diaper. It's doable!

  • I would move to Canada tomorrow if it didn't get so damn cold.
  • I think I'm going to CD next time around.  I think with DS, it seemed too overwhelming as a first timer.  I know that my sitter would be fine with it which is a definate help!  What a great program!

No, kits are not just a candian thing.  Like PP said you can try a trial from Jillian's Drawer.  I also have a recipe for homemamde soap so no one really needs to buy the special soap.

Really? Do your LOs go to daycare? I didn't know if daycare's would allow CDs.

Every 3rd day I spend maybe a half an hour washing.  Throw them int he washer for a cold rinse, walk away.  Come back add detergent on hot wash and then another cold rinse.  Then dry.  It's foolproof.

Saturday mornings I hang them in the backyard to sun the stains out

I wonder if daycares in Canada are required to accept cloth diapers. We CD and right now we have family watching Brady but I've had many issues when interviewing daycares here and there about them not accepting cloth or being VERY hesitant and trying to steer people away. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Most day cares here accepts CDs. It's not any extra work for them.  You can send all in ones which are like disposables.  You just take them off and put int he wetbag instead of the trash.

If you send pockets you can just pre stuff teh ones you send.  I pre stuff all the pockets as they come out of the dryer.

  • I want to try CD. I was thinking about trying soon, but I have to talk to my mom and DH because I don't know if they're on board with that. (My mom watches DD on weekdays while we're at work.) I definitely want to try with #2 from the start.

Gosh I want to move to Canada.. The insurance and now this awesome CD deal? Pffft I'm there!

I've been considering it, lately.  Do you have any links that would be helpful for someone looking into starting out a little late in the game?

If you go with a pocket or all in one, they are just as easy as disposables.  We use prefolds, but have a few pockets.  MIL was skeptical at first, but she now can wrap DS in a prefold better than I can.

Try these FAQs from the cloth diapering board first.  I didn't get it until I started doing it so I would get a couple and get some hands on experience.

You can ask questions on the CD board (those ladies are awesome and know everything) but this board moves faster.  I know a ton of posters here CD.

We do use daycare.  She takes the diapers off just like a regular diaper, then puts it in the wet bag. I don't ask her to rinse or dunk or anything.  I worked at a center during college, we did the same thing.  It's no more work for them really, instead of throwing the diaper away, they put it in a different bag.  I think sometimes people have misconceptions about cloth diapers, I know DH did.  Once they see how easy diapers can be it's a different situation.

It is damn cold up here.

Of course, without the cold, our igloos would melt, and then we'd have no place to live.

    Stick out tongue

  • DH and I also both work FT and have been CDing DD since she was about 8 weeks old.  It is very doabe, we have the added challenge of living in an apartment building and sharing a single washer and dryer with 3 other units so if we can do it around our neighbors trying to do their laundry as well it is totally doable for anyone who actually has a washer and dryer in their home :).  We do pockets Bumgenius and Fuzzibunz.

For those with questions about daycare and CDs it can be harder to find a daycare that is ok with it but if you take a diaper in to show them what you are talking about and how easy it would still be for them most are receptive.  When you say cloth diaper to most places they think pins and covers and more trouble so if you can show them what you are using it really helps. We did have a few turn us down flat but I figured if they didnt like our decisions as parents about stuff like this we were going to have bigger issues down the road over more important stuff.

As for the our parents, DH and our friends, it's funny they all thought I was crazy at first and now they all think it's a great idea and my MIL is a huge advocate to people who are having kids about using CDs now and one of our friends who is having a baby this summer is using CDs on her LO because she has seen how easy it really is and how much money it is saving us.

I guess I should pay a tax penalty for using disposable diapers and FF, then.

( How's that, Robin? Is that the proper amount of indignation?)

I wouldn't impose a tax penalty, I mean you already have to pay for all that formula and those diapers!  Wink

(not wanting to argue, just being obnoxious in my OP)
