Having Google Calendar issues? Want to be added? Come in here.
So... When I took over the calendar in November there were approximately 3 gazillion people on the list and maybe 20 or 30 people who had ever actually rsvped/ attended GTGs. Also, a fair number of people got emails but didn't have calendar access and vice versa. I decided to clean up the calendar and it was suggested to me that I delete everyone and start over. Made sense. I posted asking for people's opinions and no one had a better idea/ expressed any desire not to do it this way. I wiped the calendar right after the Thanksgiving potluck that Taytee hosted. I'm pretty sure that I posted every day for a week with info on getting added back to the calendar, but I am happy to do so again.
If you want to be added back to the calendar, please email me at austinnestie.moms AT gmail. Please include your screen name. If you want to be able to view the calendar, I suggest you use a gmail account. I know some people have found ways to make it work with other email providers, but I don't know how they did it. My understanding is that you can use any email provider you want if you just want the email notifications and don't care about access to the calendar. You will need to access the calendar to see RSVPs.
There are currently 70 people who have requested and received access. Still only about 10-15 people regularly even bother to RSVP. If you never plan to attend a GTG, please don't ask for access. If you want to attend a GTG, but they aren't at a time/ date/ location that works for you, organize one. They don't have to be at your house. Most of the recent ones are happening at public parks.
I am also having a lot of problems getting the calendar to work. It tells me that I have modified too many events and I need to wait for my account to be reviewed. I googled the error message and saw post after post of people b!tching about the same thing dating back to 2009. If this continues, we are going to have to switch to something else, but I don't know what that is. The thought of inputing all of these email addresses again makes me want to cry. I'm accepting any and all suggestions.
What this means for you guys is that I'll post this message every day for a week. At that point I will add the new people to the calendar and invite them to the events currently on the calendar. I can't do it as we go because I had to create a new gmail account to be able to edit it at all. I figure I can edit about 3 things before I'll need to create a new one again.

Anyway, thanks for adding me back on there. I'm still not able to respond/ rsvp- any tips?
The problem, though, is that it doesn't function correctly. I don't ever get the emails so I wouldn't even know what to respond to unless I checked it on a regular basis. Since I don't even have time to shower or brush my teeth on a regular basis, there is no way I am checking that calendar daily or weekly!
It is a really cool idea in theory, but it just doesn't function all that well in reality. If I had any sort of computer knowledge I would totally create something that worked fantastically well and make a bunch of money off of it.

That makes sense. I just posted the details for the Easter Egg Hunt on the board. That way you guys don't get spammed with info for GTGs you aren't interested in the rest of the year. If you guys change your minds at any point, just email me and I'll get you added.
I have my google calendar synced with my iCal and whenever an event is added it shows up in the bottom left corner when I'm in the month view. If I decline it, it's removed from my iCal. If I'm in my personal gmail calendar, it is up in the top left I think once I click on the event. I'm not sure how people manage to respond with a note. Maybe someone else will chime in? Let me know if that's not working and I'll poke around a bit.
I hate to add to the problems. But, I am also now not getting the emails. I check the calendar on a very irregular basis, but did so yesterday because i saw a post about a bunch of events being added. I looked on the calendar and could see them, but could not RSVP. Also I did not get any emails about any of them including the Easter Egg Hunt. I now it is not due to my setting because I have not changed anything. The last email I got was Monday for tomorrow GTG but nothing since.
I try to look around for fixes or an alternative in the next few days (off Friday). If it comes to moving it we can divide up the emails and I can help you add them.

Well, i figured out why I can not RSVP, duh. I am only seeing them on the Mom's calendar not MY calendar. weird! I can see that I am on the attendees list though, so weird.
Here's how I add a note. I have a gmail account and I do get the emails and I'm always doing it from a computer (I don't have a smart phone/iipad...).
When I get an email for the event I click on the more details link to open up my google calender (or I just directly open up my google calendar and find it there). If its an event I haven't rsvp'd to then it will show up twice on my calendar. Once on my calendar and once on the AustinMoms calendar (which I have added to my calendar so I can view the AustinMoms events, it shows up on the left bar under Other Calendars). I click on the event on my calendar, it has a ? mark on it, that pops up a little window where I can respond. I click more details and then at the top there is the yes, no, maybe and a text box to add a response.
Hope that helps at least with adding a text response. I have no idea on why people aren't getting emails though.
Ok, I have not figured out why I am no longer getting the emails. But, I did figure ouot how to get it to show on MY calendar and not just viewing it on Austin Mom's calendar so I can RSVP. I only had "Austin Mom's" calendar listed while I was viewing. One I checked ALL of my calendar's they showed up on mine and if I am viewing from MY calendar I can still RSVP. I need more coffee.
Still wondering why it is not emailing everyone though!
I can only rsvp on the copy that's on my calendar, i.e. I can't rsvp on the Austin Moms entry that I can view on my calendar, only the invite that shows up on my calendar. So I have two of the same entries on my calendar per an event. When I say yes both stay on my calendar, when I say no the one that was my version of the event goes away.
OK, I think I figured out the email notification problem. I checked my calendar's setting and it was set to email me notifications. But, when I checked "settings for other calendars" (right below "My calendar" settings on the Setting page I was not set up for emails. So, I clicked the "notifications" next to Austin Moms and clicked on "email" for invitations.
I have no idea why it changed all of a sudden when I used to get the email up to 2 days ago. But, if other are not getting the emails they might want to check the settings.
