its a pita but i did.....i had to send them out in 2 separate sets. I thought the gift giving was over but I was wrong....ugh. I have 4 additional cards sitting on my entertainment center waiting to be mailed out right now.

I'm not. I think it's important to thank everyone who gives you a gift, but how you do that should depend on the situation and your relationship with that person. If someone gives me a gift in person, I usually just thank them in person at the time. Except for formal events like showers, then I mail cards. If a close friend or family member mails me a gift, then I usually call to thank them. If a not-so-close friend or family member mails me a gift, then I mail a thank you card.

If someone spends their time and money on getting us a baby gift, the least I can do is take five minutes to send them a proper thank you note.
This. I wrote 6 thank you notes today, and they only took me about 5 minutes each. 3 of them were for people I had never even met, but had hand-made blankets/booties/a hat for Ethan, so I felt like the least I can do is send a little thank you note.
