September 2011 Moms

It's early and I'm already annoyed...

I am getting so irritated with people saying "oh you're tired? Just wait til the baby gets here." Okay, I am not naive enough to think that I will never lose any sleep when my baby is born. I KNOW I'll be tired, i KNOW I won't sleep as much as I do now. But does that take away my right to say I'm tired now??? This is just one of the many things that people say about pregnancy that irritates me.

And I'm sure once we have the baby people will be like "Oh you're tired? Just wait til you have two."

Ugh.

Re: It's early and I'm already annoyed...

  • That is annoying.

My neighbor said that once I have a kid, I will no longer be career oriented.  Everything I do will be about the kid, and my career will be meaningless to me.

  • I hear you. So apparently I am not concerned enough (for some people in my life) for the overwhelmed stress that I am going to experience once the baby gets here. Some of these people remind me of this quite frequently. And, it isn't that I have been cavalier about the way I feel it will go when LO is here. I just can't think about it right now with my m/s. I am just trying to get through school and work day by day now. I figure I have plenty of time to worry about that later!

  • Yesterday, I was telling my SIL how I don't mind being pregnant and actually enjoy it. I don't have any m/s so basically my boobs have been hurting, gas and a little nautious, but that's it. She said, just wait it gets worse. You've never gotten very far, just wait till the end when you're so uncomfortable. I was so pissed. I just wanted to be like, Look, I've lost two kids already I don't care what I have to go through for a few months just to get one out healthy. Stop telling me how horrible it is or will be because I really don't give a crap. Just let me be happy now.

I just don't get why people have the need to project the way they feel about pregnancy onto you.

She has also told me I will want to give my dogs away. Yea, right crazy woman. My dogs are my little buddies and always will be.

  • Kinda like how people loved to tell me when I was pg the first time about how my life was getting ready to change, and just you wait, your world is getting ready to be turned upside down.  Really?  Adding a tiny person to our family and being completely responsible for every aspect of his life and well being is going to change things?  Hmm, maybe we should rethink this, thank you so much for telling me!

  • I just think we live in a put-up and shut-up culture. Nobody wants to hear anything other than "i'm great!" esp. where babies are concerned. So people saying -oh just you wait- are really just saying, shut it, it could be worse. But I think a little empathy and sympathy goes a long way!

For me, I'm preg, trying to organize and figure out a wedding, and have my PhD comprehensive exams in a month. Meaning, I have to read and prepare about 150 books in 5 weeks, in addition to write a chapter whose deadline is come and gone. I honestly don't anticipate ever being as stressed out again in my life as right now, and if I complain, nobody gets it. So my fuse is pretty short, and they all think I'm a pregnant b*****. Oh well.

    This.

Before I even got pregnant, people would say to me, "just wait until you have kids, you'll forget all about your career"  Even if that prophecy comes true, I HAVE to work otherwise I won't have a home to stay at with the baby.

  • If someone makes a comment about being tired, I'd just point out that your are making an entirely new person in there and it's hard work!

Exactly!  And I haven't busted my butt to obtain my masters and professional licensure along with earning promotions to just stay status quo because I have a kid.  Sure, I won't stay late every day, but I also have a husband who can take care of the child, too.  It's not the 40's, women can have careers and family.

My neighbor though, quit her job to stay at home, but she wasn't highly motivated and didn't really care for her job.  Heck, she was unemployed for a while after college before finding a job.  She just doesn't understand the different personalities we have...

My neighbor also suggested that I don't work out as much.  That  I don't need to push myself...well, if I am tired, I stay home.  But I am going to remain fit and work out to reduce stress.  She wanted me to motivate her to work out when she was pregnant, but after 100's of excuses, I quit asking her to go.  Arrrggh.

  • That was easily the most annoying comment I got when pregnant with DS. That and the, "sleep now, because once the baby gets here, you won't sleep for a year!"

Yeah, if only you could bank sleep. Morons.
