February 2011 Moms

My body hates me.

So...not only do I have mastitis, but I also have PUPPS. The dermatologist told me today that it's "extremely rare" to get it after delivery, but I guess I'm just special. I feel like I am falling apart and the frustration is mounting. Between the itching and the painful boob, I really don't have the sanity to take care of LO and it's horrible.

  • Ouch Mama. :( Maybe what you need is a set time every day to sit in the bath with the baby and just relax? That would help your mastitis and perhaps your PUPPPS, too.

  • ohhhhhhhhh no!!! I suffered with PUPPPS from 35weeks until my baby boy was born at 38 weeks.... dr said it was the worst she had ever seen. i know how bad it is, and would not wish it on anyone!!

Some things that worked for me... Grandpas pine tar soap. Can be bought at health food stores, or GNC. THIS is a must have! Get it! I would lather myself in this during a cold shower, and it would give me a little bit of sanity. Soap smells funny, but so worth it.

Oatmeal bath... But, I would mix the powder with a small amount of water. Make it into a paste, and spread all over body, and let it sit for as long as possible before washing off with the pine tar soap.

Gold Bond extra strength.. in the green pump bottle. Use after your shower.

Sleep with a fan on, no covers, loose clothing.....

Everything about just offers a little relief... But the only thing that really worked for me, was a steroid, a script for an itch pill, and an Ambian every other night.

    Good luck!

It's a horrible, itchy, disgusting rash. Apparently most people get it in the 3rd trimester and it will go away after delivery, but mine decided to START after delivery which is pretty rare. It's awful...the itching is just unbearable!!

  • Oh you poor thing!  PUPPS sounds awful.  I can't believe you've gotten it after delivery, either!  I'm right there with you on the mastitis though.  I think the bath is a great idea, and hope that both go away very soon.

  • yikes! I had PUPPS for, luckily, about a week and was able to get rid of it with cortaid and making sure that i got plenty of sleep, but it itched like crazy. Hope everything gets better soon.

  • Me too--for the mastitis part!  I cannot imagine that plus something else!  Hang in there and don't do any chores unless it makes you feel better--rest up!  Hugs.
