2 + mom's question

Did any of you have to be given the medicine cervidil?  My cervix will not soften (I'm only 1CM dilated) and baby is measuring almost 2 weeks ahead.  My Dr. and I want to induce next week but she will need to give me this.

To be honset I'm kinda scared being my first baby.  Any advice or stories would be great.

Re: 2 + mom's question

  • I wasn't given Cervidil but I know it is a common drug Dr's give when you are being induced.  Once you are in labor they give Pitocin. I wouldn't be too worried.

  • I wasn't given Cervidil either, just Pitocin.

Maybe in the meantime you can try some natural methods to get your cervix more favorable? (walking, sex, etc.)

  • If you are high and tight still the worst part is the insertion, because they have to get it into the cervix.  Other than that pain getting it in place, just know that you have stay still once it is in place so it doesn't fall out and can work (or at least that's what they did with me).  It doesn't hurt after it is in and it worked like a charm with me.  I was high, tight, nothing started, overnight (12 hours give or take) later I was completely soft and ready for them to break my water and start the pitocin.  Pitocin is the one that really starts things quickly.  I got to 2 in about 3 to 4 hours and was begging for drugs.  However once I had my epi I was in heaven!  Trust me, if it was aweful, moms would have one and stop!  :)
