Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What time does you 9/10 month go to bed?

and what time do they wake up? How many naps do they take?

DS goes to bed at 9, wakes up anywhere from 6:30-8:30 and takes 1-2 naps a day. Here lately it's only been one. He had his 9 month stats today and the doctor said he should be going to bed by 7:30. Which seems odd to me because it seems like the earlier he goes to bed the earlier he wakes up!

  • DD is only 8.5 months, but she goes to bed at 7:30 and sleeps till 7ish the next morning.  She takes 2-3 naps a day for an hour tops each nap.

  • I don't think it really matters what time they go to bed as much as how many hours of sleep they get.  Some doctors have some odd advice I have noticed!

  • Our twin boys are 11 months.  Since 8-9 months they have gone to bed at 7pm, and wake at 7am.  (Partial lie, one wakes up and babbles around 6am, but we get them up at 7am)

They take 2 naps a day, and have for months.  At that point they went down 9 or 9:30am to 11 or 11:30am.  Now it's 10 - 12.

PM nap at that time was 2 - 4.  Now it's 3 to 4:45 or so.

The book I follow is Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, and he (the author/dr) stresses not to let babies miss the second nap.  You may need to adjust timing to make it happen!

  • My 10-month old twins go down at abut 7:30 and sleep until 7 am. They have a nap at 9 for about an hour or so and another nap at 1 for 2ish hours. We followed the suggestions in Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child. The author's perspective, and I've found this to be true with my kids, is that sleep begets sleep.
  • LO goes to bed between 7 and 7:30 and wakes up at 6:15 on the dot.

He takes 2 naps during the day for 1-2 hours each.

  • DD goes to bed between 7-7:30. I have to wake her up at 5:45 during the week to get her ready for my MIL's, but she will sleep until 6:30-7:00 on the weekends or when I am on vacation.

She takes 2 naps a day, sleeping for 1-2.5 hours.

  • My boys are the opposite, the later to bed the earlier the wake-up.  I can barely keep my boys up past 6:45/7pm and they sleep 12 hours usually.  At 9-10 months they were napping twice a day for about 1-1.5 hours.

  • He's in bed between 7 and 8 PM every night.  On the weekdays we have to wake him up at 6:15 AM but if we let him sleep he usually wakes up around 7 AM.  He is a crappy napper and either takes two short naps or one long nap a day.  I never know which it's going to be.

This is our schedule too. I also read that book and adjusted to the earlier bed time. I found when I did it he slept so much better!

    Agree!

  • I love DD's 7:30pm bedtime.  She sleeps so much better if she's down by then.  During the week she gets up no later than 7, but usually we have to wake her.

  • DD is similar in that an earlier bedtime = earlier to rise. She sleeps about 10 hours at night and changing her bedtime hasn't changed that. She used to go to bed at 6:30 and be up by 4:45, so we slowly moved her bedtime up to 8:00 and now she usually sleeps until 6:00 or 6:15. She takes two naps a day, each is 1-1.5 hours. The first nap is starts between 9&10 and the second nap starts between 2&3.

  • DS is now 3 and has always been hard to get down for sleep at home.

At nine months, he would go to sleep around 10-1030.  At 3 years old, he is going to bed at the same time.  He would fight it and bedtime was always time consuming.   If we allow him to stay up, he just keeps going and going.

DD is currently 9 months old. She has been going to bed by 730 since she was 4 months old.  If she is not in bed by 730, she is super cranky.  Once I put her in her crib, she does not fight, she is content and just turns on her side to sleep.

  • DD goes to bed around 8:30, wakes at about 7 and naps once a day for about 2.5 to 3 hours.
  • Georgia is 9.5 months old and goes to bed between 7:30 and 7:45 and wakes up between 7:45 and 8 every morning.  About once a week she wakes up during the night.

  • DD goes to bed at 7pm and wakes between 6:30 and 7am, that's been her schedule, aside from occasional disruptions, growth spurts etc since she was 3.5 months Wait, check that, she now goes to bed around 7:15pm. I have noticed that's almost always gotten us closer to 7am than 6:30am.

Or....if you do any reading from a pediatric sleep specialist, they recommend a bed time between 6:30 and 8pm. There's nothing odd about it.

DD is in bed around 7 and used to sleep until 7:30, now she's getting up a little before 7am.  She takes 2 naps a day - one at 9 and the other between 1 and 2, depending if she falls asleep in the car earlier in the day.

ETA:  DD could NEVER make it to 9pm.  Even if she has a late nap, she's rubbing her eyes by 6:30pm.

  • DD is in bed between 6 and 6:30 each night, and takes two 2-hour naps during the day.  Sometimes also a 45 minute nap around 7:30am.  She wakes up each morning at 5:30am on the dot, just before DH leaves for work and the time I get up to start getting her ready for daycare and me ready for work.
