Fishers...zumba?

I have been faithfully going to the LA Fitness in Fishers since I got KU.  I don't do much, just pedal to nowhere or use the elliptical for 30 minutes.  The activity makes me feel so much better and I find that time to myself therapeutic.

But after baby comes I think I may want to ramp up my workouts.  For a few reasons, to get back in shape and to get out of the house!

Anybody tried any zumba classes in the Fishers/Noblesville/Carmel area?  Its early yet, i won't be going until August, but figured I'd get some ideas.

  • I go there--unfortunately I've had trouble getting back in the groove since I've had Josie.  They don't take babies until 3 months, and I don't love their child care--the last time I took her there were probably 25 kids and 2 people working.  I complained to the manager, and he said that the previous week only a few kids showed up so they didn't schedule as many people to work. My husband works nights, so I don't have much choice other than dragging her to the grandparents'.

Zumba/latin heat is my favorite.  The aqua fit classes are also good--I haven't been to the ones there, but I used to go to the Westfield ones with my mom before I moved.  They are good for all fitness levels.  We live just down the street from there.

  • I take Zumba classes as Brand Photo Design on Technology Dr behind Target. I love it! But it's not really the latin/salsa Zumba. It is more of a hip hop Zumba. So if you don't like rap music or booty shakin this wouldn't be the right class. The instructor rents the space from Brand so its not part of the photo studio. So the only down side is there is no child care. I always have to make sure DH is home by 5:45 so I can get to class.

We have class Tuesday/Thursday 615-715pm and Saturday mornings at 9:15 and we just started a Sunday class at 7:30pm. Each class is $5 for you can buy passes, 7 classes for $30 or 15 classes for $60. The Sunday classes are separate, we focus more on toning and those classes are $25 each month.

It really is a great class and we wear wrist weights for some of the songs to concentrate on toning. I have lost about 5 lbs since I started the class in January. And I can notice a huge difference in my stomach and abs. You should definitely check it out in August!

  • Thanks!  I do like more hip/hop type music...makes me want to shake it!  I will def check that out someday!

And I totally agree with you on the LA Fitness childcare.  I don't know if I'd be able to drop a LO there either!  Its always crowded and the "babysitters" aren't really paying attention!  I was thinking about joining the Y once baby comes, I hear they generally have better child care.

  • We were members at the Lifestyle last year and I felt very comfortable with their childcare. It was never crazy busy, it was always the same workers every time I went, and they kept the infants separate from the older kids. My only complaint is I wish the childcare opened at 3 for the afternoon instead of 4. But we mostly went in the mornings.
