SPICA cast question

My 10 month old son just broke his femur and is in a spica cast for the next six weeks. He was super mobil, walking crawling, rolling. Now we are all having a tough time adjusting and keeping him entertained. He is already showing signs of frustration from not being able to walk or sit up.

Any suggestions would be wonderful!

Re: SPICA cast question

  • When my son broke his femur we faced the same problems.  We bought our son a bean bag and propped him up in that.  That way he was able to sit up a little.  Not sure if you have a musical table, but we are able to take one of the legs off and then prop it on the bean bag and he could play with it.  Also, if you have a la-z-boy chair, you can prop them up in the corner of that.  Our son got tired of toys quickly, so just switch out toys often.  Hope some of these suggestions help, hang in there.

  • Thank you! We do have a bean bag chair, and yes, he gets tired of toys easliy. We will have to try the suggestion of the musical table.
